  • HeadCount ‘Vote With Pride’ Initiative Announces #TransPeopleVote Program

HeadCount and their Vote With Pride initiative has launched a new program #TransPeopleVote, to prevent continued disenfranchisement of transgender and non-binary voters around the country.

Since 2004, HeadCount has registered over one million voters working with musicians and partners including Ariana Grande, Phish, Billie Eilish, the Disco Biscuits, Camila Cabello, RuPaul’s DragCon, and MTV., among others.

    headcount pride

Vote With Pride was launched to provide accessible, safe, and affirming resources for the LGBTQ+ community to vote. #TransPeopleVote has been developed in partnership with VoteRiders, the leading national expert in obtaining a qualifying ID to vote.

Currently, 22 states that have both a restrictive process for changing your name and gender marker on ID, and voter ID requirements to case your ballot. The name on your voter registration must match your legal name in all 50 states and Washington DC. #TransPeopleVote is a resource dedicated to supporting transgender and non-binary people as they navigate this complicated process.

This work is core to HeadCount’s mission to make elections accessible for all voters. Together with VoteRiders, we can reach transgender voters and help them overcome ID barriers that may prevent them from voting.

Voters can visit HeadCount.org/Pride to receive state-by-state information on what steps they need to take to obtain an updated ID to register and vote in their state. Additionally, VoteRiders has assembled the first-of-its-kind volunteer legal team to support transgender and non-binary voters in this process. To obtain support, voters simply need to call or text VoteRiders and they will be connected to an expert in their state for assistance.

VoteRiders is delighted to join forces with HeadCount to provide transgender voters with the support they need to make their voices heard. Given the logistical, financial, and legal challenges transgender voters might face in securing their ID, we hope they will contact us right away so they will have the documents they need in time to vote – and the confidence they do, knowing they cannot be turned away. We are grateful that HeadCount inspired this tremendous opportunity to identify and assist voters who just might need a helping hand in the face of all these complicated and ever-changing voter ID laws.

Kathleen Unger, Founder, and President of VoteRiders

#TransPeopleVote is being launched in honor of Pride Month and will become a staple of the Vote With Pride initiative. HeadCount and VoteRiders will continue to update the resource as state laws are rapidly changing what is required to change your name and gender.

For more information, read more about how voter ID laws disenfranchise millions of eligible voters. In addition to the 25+ million voting-age citizens who lack a current government-issued photo ID, confusion and intimidation serve to prevent millions more eligible Americans from voting, even though they have a valid ID – or do not need one – in their state. Even poll workers are confused and sometimes ask voters for ID when none is required. The Voter ID Helpline (844-338-8743) receives many calls and texts from people in non-voter ID states as well as states that do require or request ID at the polls or to vote by mail.

  • Woodsist Festival Announces 2021 Lineup

Woodsist Festival is returning to Arrowood Farms in Accord, NY for their 2021 season. The festival is to take place on September 25th and 26th and will be enhanced since its last run in 2019 with more music, more food, and more space. Yo La Tengo and Parquet Courts will be welcomed to the festival as headliners.

    Woodsist Festival

Woodsist Festival leaders found that because of the unnatural state of the world in 2020, they were listening to slower, more contemplative, more intentional music. This pattern inspired them to add slower artists to the festival, such as 75 Dollar Bill Big Band, Joshua Abrams’ National Information Society, and Laraaji. Other featured artists include Kurt Vile, Kevin Morby, and Woods.

Arrowood Farms is located at 236 Lower Whitfield Road, Accord NY 12404. Tent and RV camping is available at the Rondout Valley Campground one mile away from the festival site. A carefully curated selection of local Hudson Valley-based food vendors will be on-hand serving all day long. Tickets are on sale here

The festival’s first edition in 2009 was a collaboration with label Captured Tracks, and was one of Real Estate’s first shows. The most recent Woodsist Festival lineup from 2019 included Whitney, Real Estate, Woods, Kevin Morby, Waxahatchee, Hand Habits, Bonny Doon, Wet Tuna, and Anna St. Louis.

  • Devo To Play Radio City Music Hall this Fall

Pioneering new wave band Devo will mark their return to the stage on September 21 and headline Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.

    Devo

The Ohio-based band, founded by brothers Mark and Robert Mothersbaugh and Gerald and the late Robert Casale, catapulted to global stardom back in the 80s with their electronic rock sound, quirky live performances and iconic music videos, including MTV hit “Whip It”.

Devo’s central concept of “devolution,” the premise that the human race has finished evolving and is now regressing into a less civilized state — was first developed by Casale and Lewis in the late 60s, while both were students at Kent State University. This concept expanded after the pair met the Mothersbaugh brothers, and took on a new level of seriousness in the wake of the Kent State shooting of four unarmed student protesters on May 4, 1970. This event would serve as a key moment in the band’s formation.

Devo’s Radio City show will be the band’s first performance in many years and one of only two headlining North American concerts. The other show will take place at the Performance Venue at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles on September 25.

We look forward to performing live again. It’s been quite a while since we’ve performed live and we’re excited to be able to bring our music to our fans in New York and Los Angeles this fall.

    Devo

Tickets for the New York and Los Angeles shows go on sale June 11 on Ticketmaster.

  • Eagles Add New East Coast Dates To 2021 Tour

The Eagles have added six new concert dates to their upcoming 2021 tour, produced by Live Nation. The tour will now kick off in New York on August 22 at Madison Square Garden. After two shows at the Garden, Eagles will travel to Boston’s TD Garden and Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena.

These new dates are especially exciting because the Eagles will be performing the entirety of their iconic Hotel California album–the third best selling U.S. album in history. Founding members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt will be joined on tour by Deacon Frey (son of the late Glenn Frey) and Vince Gill.

    Eagles

The album playthrough will feature accompaniment by an orchestra and choir. The rest of the show will finish out with a full set of greatest hits, a must-see considering the band’s album, Their Greatest Hits: (1971-1975), narrowly beats out Hotel California and stands as the number one best selling U.S. album in history.
