Nick Newhouse, an electronic artist from New York City, finds the beauty in nightmares with his debut single “Every Night (In My Dreams).” This song is the tip of the iceberg for Newhouse’s new musical project. It creatively captures the love-hate relationship that Newhouse has with sleep, sleep deprivation, dreams, nightmares, and underwater spaces.
Nick Newhouse is a brilliant musician that is constantly fixated on existential themes and chilling production. He has recently moved away from his dance-oriented roots to dive deeper into his own thoughts and write music that reflects his imagination. He finds inspiration from underwater spaces and dream worlds, and his music is designed for listeners that hate going to sleep but never want to wake up. “Every Night (In My Dreams)” is the hallmark of his new music project, including dark lyrics and lush melodies.
“Every Night (In My Dreams)” is the first of several tracks that Nick plans to release in 2021. The debut single is paired with an ethereal music video that visualizes many of Nick’s non-musical influences as well as his fears.
Newhouse’s raw talent paired with his lyrical vulnerability makes him a captivating artist–listeners are able to relate to his lyrics while also feeling strongly moved by the enticing electronic beats that he produces. “Every Night (In My Dreams)” is the perfect song for the artist to start with because it is exemplary of his audio and visual aesthetic, but is only the tip of the iceberg of his career.

D’Arcy is a fresh alternative musician hailing straight from New York City. Her first single, “Crush,” was released in October of 2020 and has recently been remixed by Bubblegum. She just released a brand new creative lyric video for the remixed “Crush.”
D’Arcy is known for her dark and dramatic alternative flair. Her first single “Crush” was released in October 2020 followed by “Bad Girls” in December and “Bad Girls” remix by Morgothbeatz (Juice WRLD, Lil Xan). D’Arcy is the first musical act launched from DRØME, a media company that previously published a multi-issue print magazine featuring Billie Eilish, Sofi Tukker, LPX, OSHUN, Girlpool, Nakaya and more.
If you like Billie Eilish or Lorde, you’re bound to like NYC-based indie act D’Arcy. Coming in with her dark and alternative pop sounds, she’s making her presence known and offering a unique take on the genre that’s setting her apart from the aforementioned artists.– EARMILK
“Crush” is one of her upbeat tracks, illustrating the first feelings of realizing you have a crush on a special somebody. It is both cute and hard-hitting at the same time, showing off D’Arcy’s unique talent of being an astounding female punk artist. The Bubblegum remix slightly speeds up the original track, making it more pop rather than rock. The new lyric video features youthful graphics that make the heart of the song come to life.
D’Arcy’s musical career is off to an insanely promised start, and fans can only be expecting more great sounds coming from her in the future.
Cohoes, located in the northeast corner of Albany County is home to The Cohoes Music Hall, the center of the village and houses hundreds of local music concerts every year. Starting in late July, the venue will reopen, and fans from all across town will gather here to enjoy performances ranging from rock to folk to stand up comedy.
The Cohoes Music Hall was built in 1874 by two businessmen looking to bring live music to the center of town. Since its opening, the hall has hosted many performers such as Buffalo Bill Cody, John Phillip Sousa, Pat Rooney, and more. In 1905, after about 30 years of financial struggles, the bank chose to shut down the venue when the roof gave up and there was too small of a budget to repair it.
Many years later in 1986, the town funded over a million dollars to restore and reopen Cohoes Music Hall. Since its reopening, it has been a big success in the town, hosting very diverse performances. It is also the fourth oldest functioning music hall in America!
The fall concert season is set to begin on July 27th with a performance of Alice in Wonderland. Throughout the late summer and entirety of fall, performers such as Joe Louis Walker, The Sweet Remains, Dana Fuchs, and so many more will grace the Cohoes stage. There are even a few shows already planned for the beginning of 2022.
The location of the Cohoes Music Hall is perfect for anyone looking to have a night out on the town. Since the hall is in the center of town, food and drink options for before or after a show are endless. Whether you’re in the mood for Anthony’s Italian Restaurant, Cafe Monocle, or Hot Dog Charlie’s, it will be conveniently located close to Cohoes Music Hall. New York based husband and wife duo Astroblue Express are incredibly excited to have just released their newest single “Cotton Candy Dreams.” The track is the third song from their upcoming EP The Optimistic Traveler which will be available this fall.
Astroblue Express has a unique sound that encompasses cinematic music, dream pop, blues, and experimental R&B. Their creativity shines in their production, which is done independently by them from start to finish. One of their songs “Here to Dance” was a recent finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in two separate categories.
“Cotton Candy Dreams” is an eccentric song about the universal desire to achieve a specific dream life and how the media distorts our realities of these aspirations. The track makes listeners both optimistic and perspective at the same time, seeing the dark truths of the media that society is saturated in.
One powerful string of lyrics from the track is, “We plug into our own worlds / And forget to connect / But we walk beside each other / Like a flock of wild birds.” The vocals are astoundingly beautiful and the production gives off a chill, euphoric feeling. The video that accompanies “Cotton Candy Dreams” is a masterpiece, featuring bright, saturated colors and clips of the whirlwind that is New York City. The project feels both comforting and refreshing for listeners of all kinds.
“Cotton Candy Dreams” showcases the remarkable talent that Astroblue Express has. Keep an eye out for their EP being released in the fall, as it will provide similar sensory feelings as the wonderful “Cotton Candy Dreams.”
Slothrust, rising all-rock band, will join Manchester Orchestra for their upcoming tour, The Million Masks of God. Foxing will also come along for the journey. Slothrust will be performing their new album, Parallel Timeline, which will be released on September 10th.
Slothrust is absolutely stoked to make their return to live performing: “I have really missed the unique energetic exchange that happens when you perform in front of an audience,” shares front person Leah Wellbaum. “The lack of it has left a void in me and we couldn’t be more excited to hit the road again with our friends in Manchester Orchestra. In its own way, touring has always felt like home and we are stoked for this epic return.”
Parallel Timeline is a unique album that focuses on bandleader Leah Wellbaum’s experiences with feeling trapped inside of her own consciousness while also searching for meaningful connections to the universe. The band committed to risk-taking with their new album. They experimented with new production techniques, resulting in new sonic realms for each track. Wellbaum connected with her inner child when creating the album, which is illustrated by the album’s artwork and visuals. She feels that inverted colored rainbows and orbs became a gateway to exploring the illusory things we see and experience in everyday life.
Parallel Timeline, mixed and co-produced by industry legend Billy Bush and mastered by Heba Kadry is a masterclass in balancing tenderness with the fierce guitar work Wellbaum has become known for. With a distinct yet unified sound that blends progressive rock, acoustic and pop, Slothrust has never been more confident.

American rapper, songwriter, actress, model, and reality TV personality Lil’ Kim (Kimberly Denise Jones) celebrates her 47th birthday today. Happy birthday to an icon who changed the female rap game!
Lil’ Kim went through many hardships in her early life. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and during high school, she was kicked out of her father’s home and had to live on the streets. When she bet Biggie Smalls as a teenager, her life changed forever. He quickly became her mentor as well as her lover, and he got her into the Brooklyn-based rap group, Junior M.A.F.I.A. which jumpstarted her musical career. Lil’ Kim’s popularity heightened as a member of Junior M.A.F.I.A., and after their first album was released, she began working on her solo material.
A year before Biggie Small’s tragic death, she released her debut studio album, Hard Core, in 1996. Hard Core was certified double platinum and sold more than six million copies worldwide. The album’s debut was the most successful for a female rapper at that time. “No Time” was the leading single on the album, reaching the number one spot on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart.
Her second and third albums, The Notorious K.I.M. (2000) and La Bella Mafia (2003) were also certified platinum. Soon after The Notorious K.I.M. was released, she worked with Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Mya to create the hit single, “Lady Marmalade” for the Moulin Rouge! film soundtrack. The track was number one on the Billboard charts for five weeks straight. This song was out of Lil’ Kim’s comfort zone, and it led her to gain admiration from other fanbases, excelling her rap/R&B career even further. “Lady Marmalade” also won Lil’ Kim her first Grammy award.
La Bella Mafia included collaborations with Missy Elliott and 50 Cent, and was produced with help from Timbaland and Kanye West. At the time of its release, Missy Elliott was the only other female rapper with three platinum albums.
In 2005, Lil’ Kim was sentenced to a year and a day in jail, along with a $50,000 fine for perjury and conspiracy for lying to a federal grand jury after getting herself into a sticky situation involving her rival, Foxy Brown. Her time in jail was spent writing new music, and her fourth studio album, The Naked Truth, was released when she was still behind bars. Since she had no way of promoting her album, it did not sell quite as well as her first three albums, however critics know this vulnerable and hard-hitting album as the best female rap album to exist. It was also the first female rap album to receive a 5 mic rating from The Source.
After serving her time, Lil’ Kim decided to break off from Atlantic Records to release her music independently. She made appearances on Dancing With the Stars and produced two mixtapes, Ms. G.O.A.T. (2008) and Black Friday (2011). More recently, in 2019, Lil’ Kim released 9, a full-length studio album. During the first week of its release, it charted on the hip hop/R&B and rap album sales. It features artists such as City Girls, Rick Ross, O.T. Genesis, and Rich the Kid.
Lil’ Kim has earned her title of the Queen of Rap. Her aggressive lyrics have been transformative for the rap world as well as for inspiring all females to empower themselves and one another. Although she is now 47 years old, her career is far from over. She has said recently that she is continuing collaboration with artists such as Missy Elliott, City Girls, and Paris Hilton. The public can only imagine what epic content will come from her as she ages and gains knowledge and wisdom. Happy birthday to an incredibly important musician, Lil’ Kim!
