  • Holidelic Puts The Funk Back In The Holiday Season at the Lucille Lortel Theatre

Papadelic kicked off the opening night of his Holidelic holiday-residency on December 10 like no other, with vibrant lights, outrageous costumes, a full band, as he transformed traditional holiday tunes into upbeat funk classics. The “flashy, bass-heavy retro futuristic take on the holidays” (New Yorker) showcased GRAMMY-nominated Everett Bradley’s unbelievable ability to perform and entertain the audience with groovy vocals, dance numbers, outfit changes, and even reading a story to the crowd at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in the West Village.

    holidelic Lucille Lortel Theatre

Everett sent laughs spinning around the theatre and welcomed the crowd with open arms. Papadelic was quick to disclose that the room was filled with love no matter your background, culture, or religion just before busting a groove of “Dreidel Dreidel, Dreidel.” Each number had the slight reminisce of holiday songs with the new embedded humor and undeniable funk that made for an uncontrollable dance party in Lucille.

“DysFunktional” urged a full throttling bass line complimented with an oozing brass section and ad libs from three phenomenal background vocalists. Holidelic’s white afro, bug eyed sunglasses, red soldier jacket and tight sequin shorts hailed a rambunctious personality from the North Pole putting New York City in the holiday spirit.

Holidelic brought the full fledged experience of creating a light show within itself. Not only did Papadelic’s white afro glow in the dark, but the disco ball and running string lights through the theatre created varying ambiances through the show. For his solo number, he wielded a unique instrument that vibrated eerie synths and surged heavy reverb transporting us into an odd alter dimension. His band members retracted back allowing Papadelic to stand alone in the spotlight so we could take in his rich timbre, and have an intimate moment with the man himself in his own spotlight.

Cracking jokes in between made the performance more lighthearted, and one couldn’t help but hear the roots in his voice that birthed each moment. One can easily forget that underneath the costume, Everett Bradley is a renowned artist, choreographer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who worked alongside the greats like Daryl Hall & Oats, John Bon Jovi, and Carly Simon.

Everett’s illustrious vocals and intimate moment with the audience, walking down the aisle eagerly asking audience members to help sing “Frosty the Snowman,” distracted us from the band regrouping on stage for their next big number. Complete with outfit changes and all Everett, revealed an all new white fringed jacket and new white costumes for the band. Back with a full house groove, Papadelic brought out the real star of the show, Santa Claus. They performed a delightful humorous act “Down The Hatch” bringing a bottle of Jack Daniels on stage as a little “present” and proceeded in taking shots throughout the piece.

Everett’s long standing Holidelic show at the Lucille Lortel Theatre has shown no signs of slowing down from its debut in 2002. The original idea of starting this show to bring some cheer after 9/11 still holds true, as we all need a little spirit after enduring the recent/on-going pandemic. Bradley was sure to include the importance of visiting the family for the holidays, never knowing when it might be our last.

  • Alice Tully Hall To Resonate With Mozart’s Greatest Hits on December 14

The American Classical Orchestra has joined in on celebrating indoor concerts and will be performing an all-Mozart program at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center on December 14th, titled “Restore.”

Alice Tully Hall and Julliard School

New York City’s foremost period instrument orchestra is back in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall conducted by the Orchestra’s Founder and Artistic Director Thomas Crawford and includes the composer’s substantial masterpiece, the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. In Crawford’s piece he’ll feature soloists Aisslinn Nosky, violin, and Maureen Murchie, viola. Later he’ll feature the Flute and Harp Concerto with harpist Parker Ramsay and flutist Emi Ferguson, in addition to Mozart’s popular Symphony No. 29.

We’ll hear from harpist Parker Ramsay and the Handel and Haydn Society’s Principal Flutist Emi Ferguson first on Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra. At just 18 years old, Mozart wrote the light-hearted Symphony No. 29 which remained a foundational piece in the composer’s career, posing as a signature of his classical style. For Sinfonia Concertante, showcase violist Maureen Munchie will have to tune her viola a half-tone higher where Mozart wanted to create a brighter sound.

    Alice Tully Hall

Munchie has performed on both modern and Baroque violin and viola across the US and overseas with Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Handel and Haydn Society, all the way to Broadway’s pit of Tootsie, so fortunately for her this will be an easy feat. The “a fearsomely powerful musician” violinist Aisslinn Nosky will also be a featured soloist, channeling skills she’s learned from hailed The Toronto Star, the Eybler Quartet, and being Concertmaster of the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston.

    Restore

Parker Ramsay, harp; Emi Ferguson, flute; Aisslinn Nosky, violin; Maureen Murchie, viola

    All-Mozart Program:

Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra in C Major, K. 299

    Symphony No. 29 in A Major, K. 201

Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E-flat Major, K. 364 (320d)

Tickets priced at $35–$75 are available online at lincolncenter.org or by calling CenterCharge at 212.721.6500. Concertgoers will need to comply with Lincoln Center’s visitor guidelines, including COVID protocols, which can be found here.

Andrew Thomases extracts music from his down to earth personality, whether it is his vulnerability or call to action, Thomases has a job for us all to do. “Will You Miss Me When I’m Gone” addresses the topic of climate change from the perspective of the environment filled with eccentric bass rhythms, funky guitar, and booming percussion.

    Andrew Thomases

Thomases is always looking to challenge the listener’s mind by stirring curiosity in their hearts. Through his retro rock rhythms, complimented by captivating melodies inspired by the the greats of the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s almost easy to bypass his lyrics. Defining his genre as “conscious rock” Thomases is dedicated to singing about current events, life experiences, or loss taking his fans on an emotional journey with each listen. His personality always shines through making each emotional journey lighthearted, cracking jokes through his serious messages.

“Will You Miss Me When I’m Gone” is a warning and a call to action, as we must act quickly to preserve what we have for future generations. Otherwise, they may not even know what they are missing.

    Andrew Thomases

The New York native grew up just north of New York City as a son of a musician himself. Andrew’s father pursued his passion for bass guitar pushing him to pick up his own at the age of 12. As a typical band-type highschooler, he spent his years organizing and playing in cover bands around his hometown. His tendency to lean on unusual chord progressions threatened the status quo and earned him the role as a DJ for his school’s radio station, and he continued to explore music through college. His recent move to San Francisco has given Andrew more experiences to write upon, bringing more material to captivate his fans.

The powerful call to action will inspire you to pay your respects to mother earth while keeping you grooving on the dance floor.

  • Debbie Gibson is Back To Spread Holiday Cheer with “Christmas Star”

With Christmas being only a few weeks away, we’ve been starting to hear more Christmas jingles wherever we go. Brooklyn-native Debbie Gibson has released a video to her infectious, sleigh bell-filled original Christmas song “Christmas Star,” a fresh holiday jingle that will keep us singing through the 25th.

    Debbie Gibson

“Christmas Star” teaches us to let go of the past while being the change you wish to see in the world this holiday season and beyond. Debbie alongside her guest stars, her three dachshunds named Joey, Trouper, and Levi. Watch “The Christmas Star” below.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, THE Debbie Gibson? Yes, we are talking about THE Debbie Gibson, one of the biggest teen pop stars on Earth since the late 80s. You remember sobbing in bed, screaming along to each innocent adolescent heartbreak like “Lost in Your Eye” and “Foolish Beat.” Debbie earned a Guinness World Record for being the youngest artist ever to have written, produced, and performed a Billboard number one single at 16 years old, a title she still holds to this day.

Debbie Gibson’s 1992 Les Misérables Broadway debut, via Facebook

Conquering the Broadway stage starring as Eponine in Les Misérables, Sandy in Grease, or Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Gibson is a timeless pop-star who reaches for her quintessential songwriting expertise to shed some holiday spirit this coming Christmas. She’s hard to missa, and she’s back for more, without losing any of her stardom.

I think that celebrities should never underestimate their power. I mean just to draw attention, because then people get involved on a personal level.

    Debbie Gibson

The Brooklyn born, Long Island-raised popstar has the big city to thank for shaping her into the into a pop-star. We all have to thank her mom too, bringing young Debbie to venues across the five boroughs that influenced her rise to fame at just 15 years old. With time, her songwriting has evolved with each hit released and television or Broadway appearance. Earning the ASCAP award for songwriting alongside Bruce Springsteen in 1989, Gibson continues to shine through each hit she writes.

After all this time, Gibson released her 10th studio pop album, The Body Remembers, waiting 20 years to find the perfect moment, creating a milestone for her and her own label, Stargirl Records. Paying homage to her earlier music, we hear her authentic sound of modern pop hooks and upbeat club bangers.

This time she puts a new refreshing spin on her newest album. The Body Remembers represents all things Debbie: empowerment, living your best life, and staying eternally electric. Listen to the full album below.

  • Late Night Thoughts Release Their Most Honest EP To Date, “Bridges & Tunnels”

Brooklyn-based folk-pop duo, Late Night Thoughts’ new EP Bridges & Tunnels, including their hit single “Sacrifice,” released earlier last month. The duo like to describe their unique sound as “home-grown pop” evolving from just two classmates in a songwriting course in college, to blessing us with their third EP.

    late night thoughts

Embodying a singer-songwriter feel, each song is undeniably earnest, opening an intimate dialogue between both artists and their audience. Warm, thick vocal harmonies consistently present themselves across the record, mixed with groovy acoustic guitar strumming and sincere messages. This time we hear a more polished, mature sound from the two artists, now with the utmost potential after amassing over 3 million streams for their first two EPs.

Every facet of our being has taken a giant leap forward, from the clothes we wear to the videos we make and the music itself. This EP will take you on a journey through what life has been like for us as young adults trying to live out our dreams while struggling with our fears and holding on to love

    Late Night Thoughts

An all new sound has debuted on Bridges & Tunnels especially listening to “Faith” where Late Nights Thoughts’ transition to a ballad format execute their message in a more fitting form. The sheer rawness of their lyrics with minimal instrumentation somehow tugs on our heart strings just a little harder. Brian Rauch’s ability to encapsulate the struggles of a long distance relationship makes us think that he may have just read our mind.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frjCfaNFvlw

The piano power ballad “analyzes the struggle of a long distance relationship,” according to the band. “It was influenced by a time in one of our relationships when long distance seemed like it was an impossible hurdle to climb, despite the love being so strong.” Rauch’s silky voice over Harlow’s piano makes you feel like it’s just you and the artists.

Mifflin Street Music produced the confidence boosting “Get Back Up” encouraging us to preserve through dark times through a catchy hook releasing a powerhouse chorus of “Push me down I’ll get back up, I always do/My motivation is strengthened by every bruise.” You can find the perfect blend of upbeat classic foot-tapping classics to more somber tracks with serious notes, the EP as a whole is meant to encapsulate a journey.

    late night thoughts

Brian Rauch serenades us enunciating the countless uphill battles that a relationship may take you on like “Love Ain’t Cheap”. Michael Harlow gives us his signature syncopated groove on guitar and we can’t help be be engrossed in dance. A type of song that will make you uncontrollably break out with some embarrassing dance moves hoping nobody will watch you.

Late Night Thoughts true secret sauce lies in their vulnerable songwriting. Yes, their songs will make you burst out in dance and sing your heart out, but when taking a closer listen one might be amazed in what and how LNT is able to describe the many journeys we take in life. “Inches” is a good representation of their ability to illustrate crucial memories through lyric and song: “It’s giving and taking/ I’ll make it my mission for more than an instant/ For minute by minute/ We take it by inches.

These 5 tracks present LNT as comfortable with their audience and happy to share their introspective ideas. Listeners may take an enduring walk through the EP to discover something new about themselves, but should not be afraid because you can always confide with Late Night Thoughts.

Key Tracks: Faith, Get Back Up

  • Consider the Source Considers A New Album “Hybrid Vol. 1 | Such As A Mule”

As we find ourselves inching towards the light at the end of this pandemic, of course still hurdling over omicron, many shows have returned to in-person performances. Yet, Consider the Source will return back to a live stream performance for the debut of their album to cater to their worldwide fanbase on December 15 at 8pm EST.

Choosing a single city to debut the album would be selfish to Sourcerors from all over the world, we should consider ourselves lucky to hear the entirety of Hybrid Vol. 1 | Such As A Mule two full days before its official release. The stream will involve a unique collection of acoustic and electric instruments used on the album in a beautiful church converted venue, 5 Points Music Sanctuary in Roanoke, VA. A new single from the album will also be available this Friday December 5th.

    consider the source

What started as just one tour has led to a total of 15 years of traveling the globe sharing their unique style in hard to reach places evolving with a multitude of new diverse sounds gathered from each country visited. Today, CTS’ music is defined as soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles, but this December 17th we may hear styles from beyond where their tour has taken them to Germany, Israel, Turkey, and India. Because CTS may never subject themselves to the status-quo, this makes the band that much more intriguing where each record serves us something different every time.

Their true roots grew from the underbelly of NYC performing improvisational heavy sets. Judging from the sixth studio release You Are Literally a Metaphor or even considering the first two singles on the album “There Was Time Now” and “Rock, Flag, Eagle” their unbelievable releases are only a faint whisper of what this album can amount to. The album brings the full CTS exploration, with an additional host of instruments – Uyghur Dutar, Banjo Bass, Dabuka, Dombra, Ukulele Bass, Djembe and more. Cultural fusion might be a good descriptor for CTS, but in the end falls short in describing the power and creativity at play here.

Fallon keeps ‘Virgin Mary Had One Son’ close to its folk-standard origins, adding some shaken percussion and low, sustained piano notes to compliment his acoustic guitar arpeggions. Fallon sings with a mixture of awe and solemnity that fits a retelling of the Christian savior’s birth

  • Awfultune Breathes Confidence Into A New Chilling Single, “soda”

Perhaps the ability for Awfultune to bare her soul, opening a portal into her everyday unapologetic reflections, has mounted her such an incredible following. She released yet another hit “soda” just this past week. Collecting more than 240 million global streams, it might just surprise you that not only is Layla Eden just 22 years old, but she produces and releases her music independently from her laptop in Upstate New York.

    Awfultune

Since graduating from bedroom pop, “soda” whispers with many genres or as Awfultune puts it “Got me in a box and I’m finally breaking out”. Pulling us into a punk groove complimenting her chilling harmonies Awfultune instills us with the confidence to battle any demon in our lives, especially our own. The compelling composition delves into the confidence of breaking free and gaining control.

From 2018 the raconteur, songwriter, storyteller and vocalist has decided to open up to her audience. Eden does not restrain herself in any of her pieces, openly unveiling her narrative of gender re-identification. Her tranquility and peace with finally finding herself often spills into her lyrics like “I’m not shy anymore” and “I don’t hide anymore”.

The song is all about stepping into your power again and embracing where it will take you. The culmination of this journey will transpire with my album coming in the late spring. The album will be a visual representation of where I started and where I’ve finally gotten to, not just in my music, but in my own self

    Awfultune

Layla invites us on her journey and has been openly documenting herself through Instagram. In the next year, she will be producing a mini-documentary following her journey. Known for becoming an austere champion of the LGBTQ+ community while advocating for those who’ve simply ever felt alone or estranged from themselves, Awfultune creates anthems to live unapologetically.
