Photo by Jake Silco<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again, the live streamed performance from New York City\u2019s Beacon Theatre we available free via Twitch, with donations encouraged to The Divided Sky Fund, which focuses on delivering quality care and compassionate treatment for those battling addiction, through Phish&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/phish.com\/waterwheel\/\">WaterWheel Foundation<\/a>. On this night, the goal of $100,000 was surpassed roughly 100 minutes into the performance (9:41PM ET), with Anastasio sharing his experience on the road to sobriety, and the plans to open an addiction treatment center in Vermont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/treybeacon1-768x497.jpeg\" alt=\"trey beacon jams\" class=\"wp-image-350719\"\/><figcaption>Photo by Jake Silco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The night began as it did last week with familiar faces from Trey Anastasio Band &#8211; Tony Markellis on bass, Russ Lawton on drums, Ray Paczkowski on keys and Cyro Baptista on percussion. Cyro dove into his cache of percussion to create bird call noises preceding the show opening \u201cGotta Jibboo.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/121969805_10156596882567168_8778245339542735340_o-768x1187.jpg\" alt=\"trey beacon jams\" class=\"wp-image-350679\"\/><figcaption>Official poster for The Beacon Jams by Jim Pollock<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After \u201cUndermind,\u201d which Trey said held the secret of the universe, was the world premiere (and a college try) of \u201cEvolve,\u201d one of Trey\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/trey.com\/albums\/burn-it-down\/\">quarantunes<\/a>, which quickly showed huge potential for both Trey Anastasio Band and Phish versions in the future. Trey was then joined only by Jeff Tanski for \u201cDivided Sky,\u201d which stands as one of the all-time great versions. The pair together performed the entire composition flawlessly, with Tanski getting a round of applause from the band after, and likely from many at home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Trey Anastasio - Divided Sky - The Beacon Theatre - 10\/16\/20 (4K HDR)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QGQCvFIpnDE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first ever live performance of \u201cSigma Oasis\u201d since<em> <\/em>the release of <em>Sigma Oasis <\/em>followed, a rousing number despite containing the now errant \u2018take off your mask\u2019 lyric. <em>\u201c<\/em>Back on the Train\u201d was nicely accented by Cyro\u2019s train crossing sounds and shakers, and led into an enthusiastic \u201cOcelot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/treybeacon2-768x1047.jpeg\" alt=\"trey beacon jams\" class=\"wp-image-350718\"\/><figcaption>Photo by Jake Silco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prompted by a fan comment in the stream, Trey took a few moments to opine on what we are experiencing during this time, remarking that this was \u201cJust another chapter, a big wave crashing in the ocean \u2026 and we\u2019re gonna surf with it a little bit.\u201d While he was talking, a string quartet took the stage, later dubbed &#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/2020\/01\/03\/phish-in-with-clones-and-a-rescue-squad-for-2020-new-years-eve-show\/\">Rescue Squad<\/a> Strings,&#8221; Trey clearly having memories of being stuck 40 feet above the stage this past<a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/2020\/01\/03\/phish-in-with-clones-and-a-rescue-squad-for-2020-new-years-eve-show\/\"> New Years Eve<\/a>. String members tonight included Anja Wood on cello, Maxim Moston and Katie Kresek on violin, and&nbsp;Rachel Golub on viola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/treybeacon3-768x512.jpeg\" alt=\"trey beacon jams\" class=\"wp-image-350717\"\/><figcaption>Photo by Jake Silco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the second hour of this week&#8217;s Beacon Jams, the quartet added depth and beauty to &#8220;Strange Design,&#8221; &#8220;Water in the Sky,&#8221;  the quarantine track &#8220;Greater Good,&#8221; &#8220;Greyhound Rising,&#8221; and the first ever &#8220;Wolfman&#8217;s Brother&#8221; with string accompaniment plus Lawton and Baptista adding in subtle percussion, and Trey introducing the four classical musicians over the ending of &#8220;Wolfman&#8217;s.&#8221; was arranged well for this TAB configuration, and had Trey remarking afterwards that Tony was an absolute beast on the Phish jam-vehicle, but jam of the night honors go to excellent &#8220;Plasma.&#8221;
