The Next Great American Novelist<\/a>, an indie rock band from Brooklyn<\/a>, released the new single \u201cDrag\u201d<\/a> from their upcoming album Careless Moon<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDrag\u201d was written before the countless changes of the past few months. The song explores the pre-pandemic \u2018normal,\u2019 but doesn\u2019t paint it as being perfect. It looks into the monotony of life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I love New York City, though, some days it feels like a dysfunctional landscape of ill-routine. Living here, you realize you\u2019re functionally necessary but of small significance or importance within the larger enterprise. I\u2019m immersed in a series of habits: standing in line, getting on a train, heading to work, buying coffee, buying booze\u2026 Are these choices I want to make or am I just keeping the machine going?” <\/p>Sean Cahill, Songwriter.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This will be the band\u2019s second album after I\u2019ll See You in the Art You Love<\/a>,<\/em> released three years ago. The Next Great American Novelist, or NGAN for short, wanted their music to be something that could be enjoyed best live, by all sorts of people. Art You Love<\/em> delves into depression with an emo-folk sound. Careless Moon<\/em> includes songs that will \u201cmake sense live.\u201d Atwood Magazine<\/a><\/em>, who debuted the album\u2019s first song \u201cBlackberry,\u201d<\/a> notes that that the band\u2019s new songs have \u201ca heavy alternative sound that simply wasn\u2019t present in NGAN\u2019s previous repertoire \u2014 and yet, this growth feels natural and exciting.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming album comes from a place of joy rather than sadness and is marked by their new sound. Despite the band\u2019s evolution, fans will still be able to recognize NGAN in Careless Moon <\/em>from their three-part harmonies and meaningful, storytelling lyrics. It explores the relationship between romance and indifference. The two can coexist at the same time within one symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
