  • SAMMYS Opens Submissions for 2021 Awards Show

    The SAMMYS (Syracuse Area Music Awards) announce their submissions opening for 2021 awards show. The call goes out to local musicians, bands, and artists encouraging them to submit their 2020 commercially available recordings for consideration before January 6, 2021. 

    The Syracuse Area Music Awards show celebrities local music to the Syracuse area. It’s become a beloved staple to Syracuse and the surrounding areas. Artists interested in entering for consideration must select one category they wish to be judged in. Only commercially released albums or EPs, released between January 1 – December 31, 2020 by artists in the Syracuse area are eligible for the 2021 SAMMYS. All entries must be available on Apple Music, Spotify or Tidal and no physical recordings will be accepted this year. Categories subject to change at the discretion of the judges. The entry form is now available here: syracuseareamusic.com/submissions and must be submitted by January 6, 2021.

    The 2021 SAMMYS will take place on March 5, 2021 and will be streamed live for free and live from SubCat Studios. The awards show will include musical performances by area artists/bands. Awards will be presented in 12 recording categories, in addition to the People’s Choice awards in four categories, Brian Bourke Award for Best New Artist, Jack O Bocchino Spirit of the SAMMYS Award, and our Community Spirit Award.

  • The Syracuse Area Music Awards Announces Dates and Criteria for 2021

    The Syracuse Area Music Awards announces dates and criteria for their 2021 award show. The Syracuse Area Music Awards  or more commonly known as the Sammys will be taking place on March 5th and will stream free on their website here. The awards show ceremony will stream live from SubCat Studios and will include musical performances by area artists and bands.

    The Sammys was first held back at the Landmark Theater in 1993. The Sammys award show has become the number one local music award event in the Central New York Area over the years. SubCat Studios was founded back in 2001 as a DIY project studio in Skaneateles, NY. It now resides in Armory Square in Syracuse, NY and is owned by Ron Keck who has been working with digital recording since 1989. Today the studio is known for it’s high-quality studio recording, remote recording, audio mixing and mastering.

    There will be a number of awards that will  be presented this year. There will be 12 recording categories, there will be 4 People’s Choice awards categories, the Brian Bourke Award for Best New Artist, the Jack O. Bocchino Spirit of the Sammys Award, and the Community Spirit Award. 

    Submission rules will be a little different this year starting with all artist recorded submissions be accepted online only. Recorded submissions will begin December 1, 2020. Furthermore each artist must select one category they wish to be judged in and their recorded work can only consist of commercially released albums or EPs, released between January 1 – December 31, 2020 by artists in the Syracuse area are eligible.   • E.S.P. To Perform at Syracuse Area Music Awards Press Conference

    Syracuse locals E.S.P. will perform at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) press conference Tuesday, February 4 at the Palace Theatre. At that time, the nominees received from the 2019 recorded music submissions will be announced, as well as the 2020 Hall of Fame inductees. 

    The SAMMYS will take place over the course of two days. On Thursday March 5 the Hall of Fame Inductees will take part in a ceremony in the upstairs venue space at the Dinosaur BBQ. The following night on March 6 will be the annual award show at the historic Palace Theatre on James Street.

    After 17 years the Syracuse Area Music Awards is still Syracuse’s biggest celebration of local music. Over 30 awards are presented each year in various categories, making known the “who’s who” of the local music industry.

  • 2020 Syracuse Area Music Awards Drawing Near, Still Time To Submit and Vote

    The Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS), an annual celebration of the Syracuse music scene, will be held at the Palace Theatre on James Street, in Syracuse, NY. The two-day event will consist of the hall of fame ceremony – held upstairs of the theatre at the Dino – on Thursday, March 5, while the SAMMYS award show – is set for Friday, March 6.

    With the award ceremony drawing close local musicians, bands and artists are encouraged to submit their commercially available recordings in CD format. Recordings released between January 1 – December 31, 2019 are eligible for consideration. Submission forms and instruction can be found on the official SAMMYS website. The submission deadline is Monday, January 6, 2020.

    The public is also encouraged to nominate their favorite venues to see live music, local artists, music series and festivals, as part of the SAMMYS “people’s choice,” initiative. There will also be a 4thcategory added to include; live, local academic or musical organizations. Daily online voting begins January 14, 2020. People’s choice voting forms can be found HERE.
