  • Video Premiere: The Lost Messiahs “Didn’t Have To Be That Way”

    The Lost Messiahs hail from the Irish Midlands and are comprised of five of Ireland’s top musicians. The band was formed by lead guitarist Ollie Plunkett, with a concept of bringing some of Ireland’s leading musicians into one whole act. Having shared stages with the likes of Van Morrison, Damien Rice, The Waterboys, and Bob Geldof, The Lost Messiahs are able to hold their own with the best in the business. Formed in 2014 as an album project, the indie-rock band is now a full touring band, having released their second album in 2019, and they’re set to bring their style of music to the US in April this year.

    Their latest music video for “Didn’t Have To Be That Way” premiered on February 14 and is gaining recognition nationwide quickly.  For this new single, they have collaborated with Steve Fallone of Sterling Sound in New Jersey. The track delivers a rich palette of atmospheric guitars, dark and brooding synths, and is driven by a relentless hypnotic rhythm. Meditations on love, loss and a search for life’s meaning permeate from the latest single. The video starts with a woman casually approaching a man from behind, and holds up a gun to the man’s back, then the screen shuts black.  The film cuts to the man lying on the ground after taking a bullet to the back and not really knowing what hit him.

    The upbeat music and soothing vocals are contrasting with the unforgiving visuals, yet smoothly blended with the pace of the video. In the following scene, the group walks out mafia-style with guns drawn and looking for some sort of fight, along with a group of women walking out looking for the same. Throughout the video there are constant exchanges of fire-fights from both sides, leading to most of each gang being taken out.  At the end, there is a reunification of a man and woman from both sides in an eerie graveyard setting and fades out as they meet. 

    In addition to their consistent music releases, The Lost Messiahs are proud to announce their month-long tour across the Northeast United States.  The tour kickoff is on April 12 at Bowery Electric, then comes back a week later at Mercury Lounge on April 20, and Rockwood Music Hall the following day on April 21.   

  • Soulful Rocker Anna Rose to Perform for Rockwood’s 15th Anniversary

    As part of Rockwood Music Hall’s 15th year anniversary, New York’s own Anna Rose will be having a show on Tuesday, February 18.  She will also be sharing songs from her critically acclaimed album, The Light Between.

    While you wait for the show, also make sure to check out her newly released music video with soulful rock-filled lyrics in “Broken Is Beautiful,” which also features two important women in her life.

    “The video for ‘Broken Is Beautiful’ is very special to me because it features two of the most important women in my life – my mom and sister,” Rose said in a statement. “To have them be a part of telling this story and to film it in a place that holds so many memories feels incredibly cathartic. As women, I think we often fight these silent battles within ourselves: the magic we inherently possess that drives us towards our passions versus the societal markers that we are held up against. At any age, that internal struggle can become a deep well of insecurity and I’m so grateful to have my family help tell this story. Beyond that, having my dear friend and collaborator Shruti direct and produce only adds to the magic, as she and I have so much trust between us after years of working together.”

    The show will start at 9 p.m. at the Rockwood Music Hall: Stage One with no cover charge.

  • Delfeayo Marsalis and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra to Preview New Songs at Rockwood Music Hall

    Legendary trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra will be playing songs off their upcoming album, Jazz Party tonight, Friday Jan. 10, in NYC. The album promises to deliver modernized twists on New Orleans traditions as well as homages to modern jazz musicians. Tickets are still available.

    “Jazz, the indigenous American music, is a music of celebration and optimism. The Uptown Jazz Orchestra is such a fun band that I wanted to capture its uniqueness. The idea was to keep the wide variety of styles that we play but to really capture the joy that is a central trademark of the band.”

    Jazz Party is set to release on February 7, 2020 via Troubadour Jass Records. It’s Marsalis‘ seventh album as a band leader, and the second major recording with Uptown Jazz Orchestra. It’s a follow-up to 2017’s Kalamazoo.

  • The Alpaca Gnomes to play NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall

    The Alpaca Gnomes, fresh off of a holiday toy drive show, head to NYC Friday night, January 10, for a set at Rockwood Music Hall‘s Stage 1 at 10 p.m. The band has built up a loyal following with their vibrant, stomp-and-groove, 7-piece original rock-folk jam band. The Gnomes ensemble currently features violin, electric & acoustic guitar, bass, drums, sax, and percussion. Check out their set for FREE this FRIDAY.
