  • Aqueous Takes on The Silver Lake Twin Drive-In Again

    Aqueous announces their plans to perform at the Silver Lake Twin Drive-In. The drive-in is located in Perry, NY on October 24, 2020.

    This will be Silver Lake Twin Drive-In third time to host Aqueous. The drive-In also hosted two nights of live Aqueous fun, from the safety of viewers cars, back in August. This socially distanced concert experience is becoming a normality across the United States due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The Silver Lake Twin Drive-In is located at 7037 Chapman Ave in Perry, NY. The Silver Lake Twin Drive-In produces weekend film features on two outdoor screens with a casual restaurant, mini-golf & more on-site.

    The gates for the show will open at 5pm at the Silver Lake Twin Drive-In and Aqueous will be live in front of screen one  at the drive-in from 6PM – 9PM. Tickets are going on sale at 10AM on October 9, 2020. The general admission for the show will be $125 for a four-person carload. The VIP tickets for the show will be $175 for a four-person carload. The VIP tickets include admission to show, parking spot in the first two rows, limited edition poster. Individual add-ons for cars over four people will be $40 per person for general admission and $60 per person for VIP ticket holders. 

    All the parking at the event will be designated by Drive-In Security. Management has final authority over where viewers may park. VIP parking will be in the first 2 rows of the Drive-In while general admission vehicle parking will be on a first-come-first-park basis behind the first 2 rows. To help with the obstruction of guests’ view, vans, trucks, and SUVs will be asked to park on one side of the snack bar or in the last three rows of the theater. To comply with social distancing guidelines, all vehicles must park at least 6 feet away from neighboring vehicles. Once parked, do not move your vehicle. If you choose to leave in your vehicle, you will not be permitted to re-enter the drive-in.

    People will be allowed to sit  outside their vehicles or in the back of a pickup truck as long as the patrons remain a minimum of 6 feet away from other guests. Face masks are not required unless you are in a public area within 6 feet of other guests. All guests must remain inside or near their vehicles at all times except for bathroom trips, to visit the snack bar or Charcoal Corral restaurant, walking your dog, or walking to a designated smoking area. All guests must wear face masks whenever they are in a public area within 6 feet of other guests until further notice.

  • Bandcamp Waives Their Revenue on September 4 to Help Support Musicians During COVID-19

    Bandcamp announced their plans to waive their revenue on September 4, 2020 from midnight to midnight Pacific Time to support musicians facing hardships during COVID-19. The music company plans to keep waiving their revenue for these first Friday of the month days for the rest of the year.

    According to the Crack Magazine when Bandcamp withdrew its fees for a day back in March as a promotional act people ended up buying $3 million worth of music in 24 hours. Since then BandCamp has continued these waved revenue days periodically including a 3 month stretch back in May, June, July of this year as a move intended to help independent artists and labels, who are being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

    According to Bandcamp’s website since the pandemic hit in March, people have bought more than $75 million worth of music and merchandise directly from artists and labels, and to date, fans have paid artists over half a billion dollars on Bandcamp.

    Bandcamp started waving it’s revenue on the first of the month back in May saying, “To keep supporting musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are waiving our revenue share on all sales this Friday, May 1, from midnight to midnight PDT. Let’s come together as a community to put money directly into artists’ pockets” via their Twitter page. 

    Bandcamp announced plans to continue the first Friday revenue waiving until the end of the year considering the pandemic is far from over. The following dates will continue this first Friday tradition: September 4, 2020, October 2, 2020, November 6, 2020 and December 4, 2020.

    New York favorites to check out and support on September 4

    Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad are a Western New York favorite by reggae fans. They formed in 2011 and are based out of Rochester. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad’s sixth studio album MAKE IT BETTER was released September 16, 2016 on Rootfire Cooperative and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. Their newest single “Good Love” released on February 7, 2020 is available for $0.99 on Bandcamp along with more of their content. 

    Aqueous is another Western New York favorite hailing from Buffalo New York. They have a devoted following for their indie-jam rock sound. They have recently made it into the national music scene due to their unique way of performing where no two shows are ever the same. They enjoy blurring the lines between a multitude of styles and genres. Their latest live performance for the Live From Out There streaming performances are available on BandCamp for each song for around $5 along with more of their content.

    Consider the Source is another favorite from New York City. Consider the Source is an instrumental trio formed in 2004. They are self acclaimed SiFi/ MiddleEaster/ Fusion sound that breaks normal genre concepts. The group has released five studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation album. They have become widely known especially by Radiohead fans for their Radiohead inspired performances. Their latest album You Are Literally A Metaphor was dropped in 2019 and is available on Bandcamp for $10 along with more of their content.

  • Aqueous Delivers a Summer Blockbuster Double Feature at Silver Lake Drive-In

    A strange summer in a strange year has seen a dearth of entertainment options. No movies. No music. A small band of heroes, named Aqueous, sought to fill the void for at least two beautiful August nights at the Silver Lake Drive-In Theater, amongst the beautiful rolling hills of Western New York. In classic Drive-In fashion, it was a double-feature, rife with of edge-of-your-seat thrills, suspenseful popcorn-tossing excitement, and of course heart-touching drama.

    Night one opened with the slinky grooves of “Phase III” and didn’t really let up from there, for what turned into a non-stop funk-out dance party, appeasing the live-music-starved audience. It wouldn’t be long before the band sunk it’s sharpening teeth into an epic 30-minute “Origami.” It explored multiple plot points before exploding in straight fire guitar shredding. Like donning 3-D glasses, fuzzy dissonance came into sharp jump-off-the-stage focus, throwing the crowd’s heads back in awe.

    The fans weren’t the only one’s missing live music. The band was clearly feeling the emptiness of the summer concert schedule, in particular the jam-scene mainstay Phish. They sprinkled multiple teases throughout the weekend. “Origami” featured some “Bathtub Gin” riffing, and then “Reba” and “Down With Disease” were jokingly teased before kicking into a full-fledged cover of “Horn” complete with real live horn honking from the crowd. Later on it came as a “Tweezer Reprise” hint here or a “Maze” segment there, like a famous actor playing a winking cameo in a smaller film.

    Having gotten the gang back and firing on all cylinders in night one, the story arc advanced in night two. The heroes intent on ousting the evil villain who had robbed the world of its live music energy source, called upon the Aquengers. And they wouldn’t disappoint. At least for a short time, the air would fill with sweet sounds, the audience would laugh, dance and smile, the world seemed to be right side up once again.

    The night’s opener, “On the Edge” dispensed with the booty-shaking funk of part one, and dropped quickly into a dark groove. Guitarist Mike Gantzer added in some twisted slide work while bassist Evan McPhaden pushed out monster-crushing bass blasts. It was some of the finest playing of the weekend, the band was locked in from the get-go. The ensuing “Random Company” rose and fell again and again, producing bigger and bigger swells of energy, in what would set the tone for an evening full of brilliant slow-building jams.

    Knowing it was as big an enemy they would ever be called upon to defeat, the team added the friendly neighborhood Spider Man to their roster, with a fun instrumental run through the classic cartoon theme. Would it be enough? Even when the sound system went down during “Be the Same,” the band persisted, blasting through the minor hiccup with a set-closing rock out.

    The 3-song hour-plus final set featured even more suspense. The band was hyper-focused and patient, developing in-the-moment beauty time and again, with ever more revelatory peaks. David Loss’s multi-weapon attacks would reach a climax in the show-closing “Triangle” with rapid-fire guitar and an extended classic rock-out ending.

    Ultimately though, after the dust cleared the future of music is no clearer. No one knows when normal live music gigging will resume. Though drummer Rob Houk cut that tension with some much appreciated comic relief. He provided some fantastic banter throughout the two-night run, and also hammed it up on quality covers in the encore slots. Night one saw him singing from the roof on Pearl Jam’s “Dissident” while night two had him crushing Van Halen’s “Jump” after having hilariously threatened some Bon Jovi earlier in the evening.

    While a Drive-In concert is certainly not ideal, under the current circumstances, the promoters at Buffalo Iron Works and the venue Silver Lake Drive-In provided the band and fans a very safe environment to briefly enjoy some level of normalcy to what would usually be a summer full of long nights of live music in sheds, fields and anywhere you can fit a stage.

  • Aqueous and Buffalo Iron Works announce two nights at Silver Lake Twin Drive-In

    On the heels of a successful Live at the Drive in Lockport this past June, Aqueous and Buffalo Iron Works have announced two evenings of live performances at Silver Lake Twin Drive In in Perry, NY. The shows on August 7 & 8 will feature a socially distanced set up for cars, providing respite for live music fans in Western New York.

    Gates will open at 3:30 each day and Aqueous will be live, on stage, in front of screen one at 4:30. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, July 16th at 10am. Ticketing details are as follows: 

    General Admission Car Passes: 2 Car Pass: $80, 3 Car Pass: $120, 4 Car Pass: $160, 5 Car Pass: $200, 6 Car Pass: $240.

    Each “Car Pass” ticket is priced for a vehicle with the stated number occupants. All ticket purchases will be internet pre-sale only until the day of the event. If your vehicle has extra seats available, you are allowed to bring additional people to fill the vehicle and they can pay for their individual ticket at the gate on the day of the show. Extra people cannot exceed the car’s capacity and security will be ensuring this at the door. Please be respectful for the benefit of all parties.

  • Aqueous Ushers in a New Era of Live Music

    At Transit Drive In in Lockport, NY, live music returned for the first time in over three months. The drought was lifted with three shows from Aqueous, who performed with a limited crowd that was safely distanced throughout the grounds.

    As Sunday attendee Pete Connors of Utica attested, “For a post-apocalytpic world, they put together as close to a first class event as you’re gonna see this year.” From the looks of the recap video by Jim Houle and just shared by Aqueous, the joy on the faces of the fans, even spread out among the Drive-In grounds agrees with this sentiment.

    With a line forming at noon for the matinee concert, doors opened at 1pm for two sets starting at 2pm. From most points around the state, you’d be home in bed before it was dark. The sound was reported as fantastic from all fronts, even if the sound had to be adjusted to appease neighbors.

    Each dad had its own unique highlight from the band. Friday opened up with local legend Rick James’ “Below the Funk,” and Saturday featured a single song second set of “Half In Half Out,” with teases throughout. On Sunday, the band left the stage before “Kitty Chaser” with a looped beat playing, as they staged a runaway golfcart marathon around the ground, saying hi to fans (from a safe distance).

    In time, we’ll remember the shows and the return to live music, even if the details get foggy. Fans are grateful for music more than ever thanks to intimate experiences like Live at the Drive In, and the easing back into live music will present us all with a new appreciation for the blessings of music around us.

  • Aqueous to Perform at “LIVE AT THE DRIVE” Concert Series in Buffalo

    Buffalo Iron Works, in partnership with The Transit Drive-In in Lockport are bringing the “LIVE AT THE DRIVE” concert series to life. The concert series will be featuring many artists starting with Aqueous on Friday and Saturday, June 19 & 20. 

    The socially distanced concert series will be held at The Transit Drive-In and will feature two concerts a week through August. Future artists performing will be announced in the weeks to come. The concert series aims to have 16 shows in total. Thursday nights will feature a concert and movie combo night while Saturdays will host concerts in the afternoons between 2PM-5PM. 

    Aqueous will be starting off the concert series on June 19 & 20. They are a groove rock band that hails from Buffalo, NY. Aqueous is a locally famous band to the Buffalo area and have been involved in many live-stream shows since the halt on live shows due to COVID-19. 

    Tickets will be available for purchase though the Transit Drive-In website. Gates for the concert series will open at 1pm both days with the show starting at 2pm. GA tickets are $40 per person and VIP are $80 per person. VIP tickets will include a ticket to the show, a vehicle spot in the front two rows, and a limited edition poster. All ticketing will be through internet pre-sale only, and tickets need to be purchased for all occupants of each vehicle under one transaction. A minimum of two people per vehicle must be purchased, with a maximum of six people.

  • Live From Out There announces “Virtual Summer Tour Series” feat. Goose, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Twiddle

    11E1even Group and Live From Out There have announced the initial schedule for their new “Virtual Summer Tour Series.” Fans of groups including Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Goose, Twiddle, Kitchen Dwellers, Aqueous, Sunsquabi (with more to be announced) can look forward to original live music content with various aspects of the concert experience through digital platforms.

    Over the summer, the multi-night virtual events will take place with fans having the chance and interact with bands like never before. Each artist has curated their own unique tour concept, merchandise and virtual VIP experience – which includes having a drink with the band, a post-show “green room” meet-and-greet or a private dinner with the band. The “Virtual Summer Tour Series” is designed to go beyond live performances and aims to replicate the intrinsic sense of community that concert-goers experience when attending shows in-person.

    “With all of the uncertainty surrounding public gatherings, we look forward to providing artists with a new model for connecting with their fans in a digital space,” says Dave DiCianni of 11E1even Group. “Despite not being able to physically be in the same room, there’s a huge opportunity for artists to engage their fanbase in a truly unique and more intimate fashion than ever before, and we are excited to work with band’s in curating those experiences. Additionally, the series will provide acts and their respective crews with much needed revenue while the music industry works to determine new ways to safely host live events. “

    Each artist will curate their own tour, with the first three series announced:

    Twiddle’s Roots Tour, a celebration of the band’s fifteen years as a touring act, will pay homage to several establishments that were instrumental in the band’s ascendance to the national stage. The nine original concerts from July 9 to 26, will be filmed at various venues throughout the state of Vermont, including a return to Castleton University, where the band formed in 2005. 

    Following the postponement of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s annual festival Domefest, the band will bring their fans together for “Homefest,” a uniquely curated 3-night event starting June 11 and included 5 sets from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, with other acts to be announced. 

    Goose will host “Summer 2020 Bingo Tour” from June 19 to June 28 live at The Goose Community Rec Center. Fans will receive digital bingo boards filled with the band’s songs and cover material. The band’s performances will be dictated by bingo balls drawn on stage as fans at home can play along for a chance to win virtual VIP opportunities and merchandise.

  • Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival Announces 2020 Lineup

    Buffalo New York’s fourth annual Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival announced its 2020 lineup which will include 15 different artists across five stages. The festival will take place July 31 and August 1, and will benefit the Child Advocacy Center for the third year in a row.

    This year’s lineup includes Smash Mouth, Spin, Doctors, Aqueous, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Magic Beans, Hayley Jane, Root Shock, Funktional Flow, Witty Tarbox, Workingman’s Dead, Critt’s Juke Joint, PA Line, Grub, Cypher, and Grosh. The festival will be made up of two main outdoor stages located on Illinois and Columbia Streets, an existing stage inside Buffalo Iron Works, another inside Lockhouse Distillery & Bar, and a stage on Mississippi Street.

    There are three tiers of tickets that can be purchased. Tier one tickets with the current lineup consist of either two-day general admission tickets for $40 or two-day VIP tickets for $150. Tier two tickets are available after July 30 with the final lineup announcements and consist of either general admission for $20 on Friday, July 31, general admission for $35 for Saturday, August 1, a two-day pass for general admission for $50, or two-day VIP tickets for $150. Tier Three tickets are day-of show pricing with Friday’s general admission being $30, Saturday’s admission for $45, and a two-day VIP ticket still for $150. VIP tickets include exclusive VIP-only tented areas, preferred viewing areas of each outdoor stage, a premium bar with craft beverages, lounge area under the VIP tent, complimentary meals, private bathroom access, a commemorative laminate, and more to be announced.

  • Aqueous celebrates the ’70s and ’80s over New Years Run at Town Ballroom

    For the second year in a row, Queen City prog-rockers Aqueous performed at The Town Ballroom for the final two nights of the year, selling out both December 30 and 31 with musical themes for each night. The 30th had an “Almost Dazed and Confused” theme, while New Year’s Eve was “Fast Times at The BreAQfast Club.” Fans dressed with the themes for the nights, adding to the festive feel of the end of the year run that celebrated the music of the ’70s and ’80s.

    The first night featured covers from 1970’s bands Led Zeppelin, Stillwater (from Almost Famous) Black Sabbath and the Bee Gees and a first set closing “Random Company.” An encore of “Eon Don” > “Tiny Gantzer” brought the house down, with David Loss singing Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” as “Tiny Gantzer.” Earlier in the night, a VIP set found Aqueous performing five songs acoustically that had previously never been performed in that style. The overall debut of “Spirit and Soul” was found among new arrangments for “Say it Again,” “They’re Calling For Ya” and “On the Edge.”

    For New Year’s Eve, a theme of “Fast Times at The BreAQfast Club” combined the music of two great 80s films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Breakfast Club with some Aqueous thrown in for good measure. Songs by The Cars, Prince, Duran Duran, Simple Minds and Flock of Seagulls were performed near-flawlessly by the band, who wore outfits from their recent music video “Come and Go.” An up-tempo/ska version of “Marty” stood out among the mang covers in the first set, which ended with “Strange Times.”

    Appropriately, Aqueous performed “20/20” to ring in 2020, following the traditional “Auld Lang Syne,” and closed the set with fan favorite “Origami.” The encore held one last surprise for the night though as drummer Rob Houk took a wireless microphone and sang the closing song from The Breakfast Club, “Don’t You Forget About Me.” During the song, the lights were kept low and before the fans could realize it, Houk was on the bar behind the crowd and walked up to the rail through the crowd singing. If this is how the ’20s begin for Aqueous, this might be their best year yet.
