Prince’s estate, sitting on a trove of unreleased Paisley Park studio recordings as well as video footage, will stream the March 30, 1985 ‘Purple Rain’ show from Syracuse at The Carrier Dome which will be livestreamed on Prince’s YouTube channel from Thursday, May 14 until Sunday, May 17.
The album from the show will be available for purchase digitally for the first time on Friday. Donations will benefit the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and Google will match donations up to $5 million.

A Thursday pre-party kicks off at 6pm with Prince & the Revolution drummer Bobby Z with a live Q&A with the Current’s Andrea Swensson.
The Carrier Dome concert also aired live to more than 12 million viewers in Europe through Eurovision and became a hot bootleg shortly after.

With its 100th anniversary coming up later this decade, the iconic Landmark Theatre in downtown Syracuse will close this summer for renovations and upgrades. The marquee will be repaired and auditorium seating will be replaced, said executive director of the theater Mike Intaglietta. Events are still scheduled through mid-May, but for the following 15 weeks, the venue will be closed.
The marquee as it is now is more than 30 years old and has been damaged in recent years. The new marquee will be a replica of the original with LED displays, era specific decor, and programmable lighting. The façade window will also be restored, including exterior lighting that will highlight the venue’s location on Salina Street.
The original seats are still present from the 1928 opening of the Loew’s State Theater, and while they have been reupholstered over the years, the lack of legroom and accessibility for those with disabilities make the need for upgrades even more important.
“The new seats will feature contemporary, supportive materials, configured appropriately for our auditorium and with an ergonomic design to enhance patron comfort,” Intaglietta said.
Intalgietta will continue fundraising for the theatre “to make all of these improvements as impactful and enduring as they can be” and encouraged supporters to become a member, dedicate one of the new seats, or donate.
“Whether you’ve been a patron, a volunteer, a member, a donor, or all of the above, we would not be where we are without you,” he added. “Thank you for your support, and remember—it’s not just a Landmark, it’s your Landmark.”

The unmistakable charisma of Tierinii Jackson supplemented by the guitar and keyboard prowess of Ori Nafataly and Jeremy Powell, with background vocals and a steady beat from Tikyra Jackson, make this a great young band with a bright future.

That message of hope is best exemplified in “Keep On” and the closing number, “Don’t Give Up,” from their eponymous debut album, which induced an audience sing along.
Galactic is a band that is difficult to quantify. They cover soul, funk, jazz, dub, and multiple other genres, always being influenced by what ever they hear in their hometown of New Orleans, or through their relentless world-wide touring. The band has put their money where their heart is, purchasing the legendary nightclub, Tipitina’s.
Galactic and Southern Avenue often relies on a rotating cast of vocalists, with this performance featuring Anjelika Jelly Joseph & rapper Charles Stewart, AKA Chali 2na.
Unfortunately, the sound mix was a bit muddled and indistinct, which is definitely not typical of the Westcott Theater. One of the telltale signs of a good show is how many musicians and fans “in the know” show up. To that end, this show was extremely popular.
Nominees for the 2020 Syracuse Area Music Awards, affectionately known as the SAMMYS, were announced Tuesday morning at the Palace Theater in Syracuse. Also announced Tuesday was the 2020 SAMMYS Hall of Fame class.
The two-day event takes place on March 5 and 6 with the SAMMY Hall of Fame induction ceremony taking place Thursday, March 5 Upstairs at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on Willow Street. The awards ceremony takes place Friday, March 6 at the Palace Theater on James Street. Tickets for the event are available starting Tuesday at the SAMMYS website.
This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include the Camden-based Mossback Mule Band, Syracuse television journalist Tim Fox, Syracuse hip hop artist Seth Marcel and Syracuse musician and sound engineer Judy Mareiniss.
Music Educator of the Year is Casey Vanderstouw, director of the Baldwinsville Marching Band and Plan Bee; and singer-songwriter Garland Jeffreys was named the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Syracuse locals E.S.P. will perform at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) press conference Tuesday, February 4 at the Palace Theatre. At that time, the nominees received from the 2019 recorded music submissions will be announced, as well as the 2020 Hall of Fame inductees.
The SAMMYS will take place over the course of two days. On Thursday March 5 the Hall of Fame Inductees will take part in a ceremony in the upstairs venue space at the Dinosaur BBQ. The following night on March 6 will be the annual award show at the historic Palace Theatre on James Street.
After 17 years the Syracuse Area Music Awards is still Syracuse’s biggest celebration of local music. Over 30 awards are presented each year in various categories, making known the “who’s who” of the local music industry.

Dave Matthews Band announced a new summer tour that will see the Grammy-winning rock group make several stops in the New York tri-state area. The tour – set to begin on June 16 and end on September 22 – will begin in the Northeast, and travel throughout the Southwest, Southeast, and the Midwest.

Additionally, DMB will be making a return to St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview, where they last performed in 2018 to a near full-house, and in 2016 to a sold-out venue. A performance from DMB will be one of many live shows at St. Joseph’s Amphitheater, which will see its fair share of concerts this year, with Live Nation announcing 20-25 slated performances to be held at the Syracuse arena.

After a successful December tour of New York City venues, legendary New York hardcore acts Agnostic Front and Sick Of It All have announced they will embark on a 19-date tour.
The tour kicks off in Boston on April 23 and has the co-headliners visiting two festivals — Epicenter in Charlotte and Rockville in Daytona — wrapping with a show at Syracuse’s venerable Lost Horizon on May 15.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Daryl Hall and John Oates have just announced that they will be on the road once again this spring and summer for a North American Tour. British rockers Squeeze and Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall along for the ride.
A series of random warm-up dates in will span February, March and May before the proper tour begins. Those stops will include a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Feb. 28.
The official tour for the best selling duo begins on May 29 and will make 32 stops along the way. Three stops in New York will include St.Joseph’s Amphitheater in Syracuse on July 30, Northwell Health at Jones Beach on Aug. 25 and finally SPAC on Aug. 31.
Fans will be delighted to know that Hall & Oates will focus the set on their huge pop hits like “Private Eyes,” “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” and “You Make My Dreams.” Hall & Oates expressed how excited they were to revisit their timeless hits in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
“I feel a professional responsibility to play the songs that people want to hear,” Oates says. “They are the songs that have made us who we are. We have a lot of them. The only problem is we have too many of them, but that’s a problem that many artists would love to have.”
“A few years back we had a big show where we didn’t play ‘Private Eyes’ for some reason,” says Hall. People got pissed off. They got angry at us. You can’t do that. You have to play these songs.”

Announced this week, country superstar Tim McGraw will kick off his Here On Earth Tour on July 10, 2020 at the Syracuse St. Joseph’s Health Ampitheater at Lakeview before making his way across the nation on a 30-city tour.
The Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS), an annual celebration of the Syracuse music scene, will be held at the Palace Theatre on James Street, in Syracuse, NY. The two-day event will consist of the hall of fame ceremony – held upstairs of the theatre at the Dino – on Thursday, March 5, while the SAMMYS award show – is set for Friday, March 6.
With the award ceremony drawing close local musicians, bands and artists are encouraged to submit their commercially available recordings in CD format. Recordings released between January 1 – December 31, 2019 are eligible for consideration. Submission forms and instruction can be found on the official SAMMYS website. The submission deadline is Monday, January 6, 2020.
The public is also encouraged to nominate their favorite venues to see live music, local artists, music series and festivals, as part of the SAMMYS “people’s choice,” initiative.
