On Oct. 14. Flushing Town Hall will host their monthly Virtual Jazz Jam will be kicking off spooky season with, “October: The Heart of Autumn.”
The Virtual Jazz Jam, Led by Astoria resident Carol Sudhalter, is part of the Flushing Town Hall online entertainment series FTH at Home!. This is their aim to provide a sanctuary for jazz musicians and lovers who can’t experience a live show, due to the global pandemic.
The Jam invites a maximum of 15 musicians a month to play their music, as long as they haven’t played at one before. This encourages a variety of artists without repeating the same tunes.
Since spring 2020, there has been a medley of different themes for the jams, including one in August, which was, “unity in mind, spirit and action.”

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead announced new dates for live streams which will benefit Headcount to encourage voter registration among music fans. The live stream multi-day event will take place from October 1-3 on multiple platforms.
The live stream was originally supposed to take place from October 2-4 on the pay-per-view system. Now, the event is being presented by LOCKN’, Relix, Twitch, and FANS and will be free for viewers on the Twitch channel at 8:00PM EST, October 1 – 2. It will also premiere for LOCKN’ 2021 admission ticket purchasers exclusively on October 3. .
Ticket holders will receive an access code to watch an exclusive set of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead which will be hosted on FANS at 8:00PM EST. All purchasers of the previously announced pay-per-view live streams will receive a full refund according to the press release.
The live streams will accept donations to help support voter registration and turnout in the upcoming election. They are doing this in teaming up with HeadCount, the non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy. People viewing the live streams on each day will have the opportunity to make in-stream donations to HeadCount and be able to verify their voter registration status.
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will be performing at an indoor location for the streams and then the broadcast will feature visual integration of LOCKN’ landscapes, giving fans at home a unique and immersive experience. The show is being presented by LOCKN’ as well as Dayglo Presents and Dogfish Head Brewery.
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is made up of Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Tom Hamilton, Scott Metzger and Joe Russo. They are a well known and loved Grateful Dead cover band that formed back in 2013.

High Peaks Event Production has announced a series of double feature drive-in concerts. Set to take place at the Jericho Drive-In Theater in Glenmont, NY, the live performances will begin at 7 p.m. A special movie screening to follow at 9:15 p.m.
Jerry Garcia fans will rejoiced as The Garcia Project live performance on October 2nd at 7 p.m. Watch as the only nationally touring Jerry Garcia tribute celebrates the past 10 years of success. A special showing of the documentary film Festival Express follows. The 2003 film gave an undoubtedly insightful look at the 1970 train tour that featured rock musicians such as Grateful Dead.

On October 3, Zac Brown Tribute Band will perform prior to a showing of Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. And on October 9, Classic Rock Legends of the Vietnam War will perform ahead of Oliver Stone’s The Doors. For the latter, all proceeds from this event will go to benefit Capital Region’s “Blue Star Mothers of America.”
The latest double feature announcements come after a successful turnout on September 18. A few hundred music fans turned out for the Pink Talking Fish and Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused.
While music fans have the chance to jam out, social distancing guidelines are to be enforced nonetheless. Attendees are required to stay within their group and face mask must be worn at all times outside the vehicle.

Despite strict social distancing restrictions still in place drive – in concerts have become just another way many have been getting their concert fix. High Peaks Event Productions and the Jericho have adopted this new normal as well.
Over the summer High Peaks Event Production introduced NY Rock N Roots. Every Sunday artists from the local Saratoga Springs area performed live Rock N Roots Facebook. The 60 year old drive-in hosted a handful of special concerts this summer as well.

As Phish moves their Dinner and a Movie series from weekly to monthly, the newest installment has been announced, featuring the band’s performance on July 23, 1999 from Polaris Amphitheater in Columbus, OH. The never before seen full show archival video will air on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30PM ET at LivePhish.com, which also happens to be Trey Anastasio‘s birthday (more on that below).
For the Dinner part of the evening, Phish HQ’s Betty Frost has put together a spread that includes enchiladas, a jicama/orange/cucumber/mint salad and apple fritters. You can find recipes for all these here.
Released on Live Phish in November 2019, the show in the Columbus suburbs was the 17th show on a 20-date summer tour. A humid evening, the show started with a 12-minute “Ya Mar,” and features Anastasio on keys briefly on the “Punch You in the Eye” intro.
On July 23, 1999 Phish returned to Polaris Amphitheatre for their second show at this 20,000-seat outdoor shed in the Columbus suburbs. It was the 17th show on a 20-date U.S. summer tour.It was still light out on a sticky Ohio evening when the band took the stage with a rollicking Ya Mar opener, followed by NICU, followed by Back At The Chicken Shack > Punch You In The Eye with an extended synthesizer-infused intro.
Set 2 turned up the heat with a first even pairing of “Ghost” > “Free,” with a lightening storm growing as intense as the jams between these two. A 25-minute “Birds of a Feather,” then still a new song in their catalog, allowed the band to play on and off with the storm as it raged overhead. During the late-set “Meatstick,” Anastasio announced that the band’s New Years Eve performance would be held at Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in southern Florida.

Dinner and a Movie is presented free to all, with a charity selected each week where donations are asked to be directed. This installment’s beneficiary is the ACLU. Founded in 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, multi-issue, public interest organization devoted to protecting the civil liberties of all people in the United States. Recognized as the nation’s premier public interest law firm, the ACLU works daily in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
Over $850,000 has been raised by Phish fans since late March for the Waterwheel Foundation and other charities highlighted in the Dinner and a Movie series.

Apple butter toast is nice, but how about apples and Biscuits this Halloween? Lafayette Apple Festival Grounds, in conjunction with Creative Concerts, are bringing the Disco Biscuits to Syracuse for a 3-night Drive-In run over Halloween weekend, October 29-31.
The Disco Biscuits 3-Night Halloween run will offer fans the opportunity to safely enjoy live music while following social distancing guidelines. A car pass provides a designated space for a standard passenger vehicle and entry for a maximum of four people per vehicle.
Concertgoers will be able to enjoy the full Disco Biscuits concert production within their designated space for the duration of the event. Fans may bring their own prepared food and beverages to enjoy during the show.

The LaFayette area of New York produces a great deal of apples amid a rural atmosphere, rolling hills, and beautiful fall foliage. Lafayette Apple Festival is one of the Northeast’s premier arts and crafts shows, and is within walking distance of the site where the Cardiff Giant was discovered in 1869.
The Disco Biscuits played a very memorable Halloween in Syracuse in 2015 at Crouse-Hinds Theatre when they put the disco in Disco Biscuits. The show featured the Philly Stray Horns in the second set, along with vocalist Alita Moses who sang on covers of “Get Down On It,” “Funky Town,” “You Should be Dancing,” “Born to be Alive” and “Give it to me Baby.” Listen to the full show here and watch the first set below.
The non-profit Giant Art Steps have announced a new series of performances honoring the legacy of U.S. Representative and civil rights leader John Lewis. “Walk with the Wind” will occur on The Mall in NYC’s famous Central at 1 p.m. Featuring acoustic music and small groups, the series is free for those attending.
While the special series began on August 28th with a performance by Wayne Escoffery’s trio, there are numerous other opportunities to catch feature performances. Upcoming on September 19th is Giant Step Arts’ own Leap Day Trio featuring drummer Matt Wilson, bassist/vocalist Mimi Jones and saxophonist Jeff Lederer. On September 20th, vibraphonist and Blue Note recording artist Joel Ross Quartet with saxophonist Sergio Tabanico, drummer Craig Weinrib and bassist Rashaan Carter will perform.
The pandemic has been disastrous for musicians, many of whom normally earn a living through live performances and tours. We’ve presented and recorded music in various venues, including partnering with the non-profit Jazz Gallery, but the current circumstances have forced us to improvise. We wanted to find a way to continue supporting musicians, bring them together with audiences, safely, and enable them to have a payday! Walk with the Wind, honoring the legacy of the great American John Lewis, is one way we are accomplishing this, and the response has been tremendous. Our goal is to raise enough money from foundations and donors so that we can have performances each spring and fall.

Syracuse native Martin Sexton is set to play a live concert at New York’s oldest operating drive-in, Fingerlakes Drive-In in Auburn. Announced earlier this week by Creative Concerts and Fingerlakes Drive-In, the concert will take place September 19 at 6PM.
With social distancing guidelines in place, each car pass sold will be for standard passenger vehicles only. There has been a limit of four concertgoers per vehicle allowed.
Martin Sexton got his start serenading the streets and subways of Boston during the early 90’s. Not only have fans heard his explosive voice in famous venues across the world but also many of his songs have been featured in spotlight TV shows such as Scrubs and Parenthood to name a few.
The American Singer-Songwriter has produced nine studio albums including his most current release “Mixtape of the Open Road.” After a successful tour, a decision was made to keep going with more performances beginning with the Fingerlakes Drive-In.
His authentic style of artistry has Billboard magazine calling him “The real thing, people.” Furthermore Rollingstone noted Sexton has “Outstanding taste in songwriting as well as a soul-marinated voice.”

These days, large outdoor spaces are pretty much the only way to get your live music fix. Well there soon will be one more venue option available for bands and concert goers like. Local business Canna Provisions Presents, based in Lee, MA, will be sponsoring Roll On In – a pop-up venue that now inhabits a meadow located in town.
Roll On In is committed to providing socially distanced entertainment, in a world where live music and music culture came to a complete stand still back in March. It boasts festival-level production on stage and large LED screens and line arrays in an effort to deliver the visuals and harmonics that are both so missed in these socially distant days.
This weekend will mark the opening weekend with three nights of live music currently scheduled. Friday, September 18, will feature Rice: An American Band and Rev Tour’s Steal Your Peach Band – an all-star collective of Northeast musicians playing Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead tunes.
Saturday night sees two Massachusetts-based bands take the stage in Trailer Trash and Whiskey City. And Sunday, Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan will headline and be accompanied by Uppercut – another ensemble of musicians collected from bands like RAQ (Todd Stoops), Turkuaz (Mikey Carrubba) and Star Kitchen (Danny Meyer).
Patrons can arrive each night at 5 pm and enjoy a full night of music with great food options also on site. Music begins at 6 pm and runs until approximately 10 pm each night. Canna Provisions is responsible for the one recreational marijuana shop that has been nothing short of a cash cow for the town of Lee, MA. They are a committed community oriented company that clearly recognizes the importance and vitality of the live music industry. More concerts are expected to take place at this new pop-up venue until November.
The Amico Barady Quartet, a jazz band started 15 years ago by Vinnie Amico and Jay Barady, are the featured performers. The band members include Vinnie Amico (moe., drums), Jason Barady (Floodwood, mandolin), Rich Williams (saxophone/flute) and Zach Fleitz (bass).

The Palace Sessions is a monthly live music series featuring local regional musicians performing at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY. The Palace Theatre’s mission is to enhance the Capital Region’s cultural and economic development with world-class arts and entertainment. Like many other live music events, The Palace Sessions had to postpone and revamp their previous musical events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Goose, the buzz-heavy Connecticut-based indie groove band, plans to move their two drive-in shows north in early October.
The weekend tour includes a visit to Essex Junction, Vermont on Oct. 2, and Swanzey, New Hampshire on Oct. 3.
