  • Jazz Is PHSH perform in Rochester and New York City during brief February tour

    This February, Jazz is PHSH returns to New York with two stops in Rochester and NYC, bringing with them perform unique arrangements featuring the music of Phish and an all-star lineup. Alongside bandleader and drummer Adam Chase, musicians Felix Pastorious (Hipster Assassins), John Culbreth (Naughty Professor) and Yesseh Furaha-Ali join together for these coming shows, with Matthew Chase and Jonathan Huber joining for the first three shows, and Snarky Puppy’s Bob Lanzetti and Justin Stanton joining for the rest of the tour.

    “Ultimately, it became my goal to create arrangements that would be fun for Phish fans to enjoy while presenting the music in a way that even the most pretentious jazz professor would be forced to respect,” says co-creator and music director Adam Chase, of the process. 

    To formulate their compositions, the Chase brothers do things like write original chord changes to support the existing melody or pull chord changes from jazz standards and add them to solo sections. The ensembles create their own unique interpretations and arrangements of songs by the beloved improvisational rock band and, at times, their unique interpretation of music from the Phish songbook are completely unrecognizable.

  • Sammy Miller and The Congregation Premiers New Video

    Sammy Miller and The Congregation has dropped a music video for “It Gets Better,” the latest single from their album Leaving Egypt. In celebration of this debut, they will be embarking on an 18-city, cross-country tour. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE.

    The nine piece ensemble was formed in 2014 at The Juilliard School in New York City, where members were students at the time. Starting off they played at various venues around NYC that typically did not host jazz ensembles. Their fan base was built around the van touring life modeled after rock bands, while dazzling listeners with a reconceptualized type of jazz.

     “This is us, I’m proud of it, and I’m eager to embark on our mission to bring joy to people’s lives through music, ” Sammy Miller, founding member of the group, said of the debut album.

  • NYC Hardcore Vets Agnostic Front and Sick Of It All Announce Co-headlining Tour

    After a successful December tour of New York City venues, legendary New York hardcore acts Agnostic Front and Sick Of It All have announced they will embark on a 19-date tour.

    The tour kicks off in Boston on April 23 and has the co-headliners visiting two festivals — Epicenter in Charlotte and Rockville in Daytona — wrapping with a show at Syracuse’s venerable Lost Horizon on May 15.

    Tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, Jan. 31 at 10:00 a.m.

  • Pink Floyd Co-Founder Roger Waters Announces “This is Not a Drill” Tour

    Pink Floyd co-founder, Roger Waters, announced via Twitter that he will be embarking on an extensive 2020 North American “This is Not a Drill” Tour. This is the first time Waters will be performing at the Times Union Center in Albany. Updated dates can be found for 2022 below.

    “This Is Not A Drill” will play in 31 cities across the U.S. and Canada including two stops in New York. First along the way will be a performance at the Times Union Center on July 25 in Albany. Waters will then return August 5 to what will most likely be a sold out show at Madison Square Garden.

    Waters was the bass player, co-lead vocalist and songwriter in the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He originally revealed news of the tour during an interview with Rolling Stone in September where he also discussed his upcoming film ‘Us + Them.’

    “It’ll be a new show. It will be no-holds-barred,” Roger told Rolling Stone. “My work is to think, ‘Well, how can I make rock & roll more interesting or theatrical or exciting or visual or musical or whatever?’ That’s what I’ve spent the last 50 years doing, expressing myself.”

  • Daryl Hall & John Oates Announce 2020 Tour

    Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Daryl Hall and John Oates have just announced that they will be on the road once again this spring and summer for a North American Tour. British rockers Squeeze and Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall along for the ride.

    A series of random warm-up dates in will span February, March and May before the proper tour begins. Those stops will include a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Feb. 28.

    The official tour for the best selling duo begins on May 29 and will make 32 stops along the way. Three stops in New York will include St.Joseph’s Amphitheater in Syracuse on July 30, Northwell Health at Jones Beach on Aug. 25 and finally SPAC on Aug. 31.

    Fans will be delighted to know that Hall & Oates will focus the set on their huge pop hits like “Private Eyes,” “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” and “You Make My Dreams.” Hall & Oates expressed how excited they were to revisit their timeless hits in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

    “I feel a professional responsibility to play the songs that people want to hear,” Oates says. “They are the songs that have made us who we are. We have a lot of them. The only problem is we have too many of them, but that’s a problem that many artists would love to have.”

    “A few years back we had a big show where we didn’t play ‘Private Eyes’ for some reason,” says Hall. People got pissed off. They got angry at us. You can’t do that. You have to play these songs.”

  • Rammstein Tease NY Show and U.S. Upcoming Tour with ‘Rammerika,’ Music Video

    Legendary German metal band, Rammstein, have teased a US tour over the past few days with social media posts featuring a map of the US with several states including NY being highlighted in the German colors. A Rammstein bannered Zeppelin flies high over major US cities, with he hashtag: #GETREADYAMERICA – all backed by a new music video “RAMMERIKA,” which explicitly credits the Apollo space program – as if foreshadowing a massive touchdown:

  • Brooklyn’s Antibalas release “Amenawon” off upcoming Daptone Records’ ‘Fu Chronicles’

    Antibalas will celebrate its 20th Anniversary with a return to their Williamsburg roots on their latest Daptone Records studio album, Fu Chronicles, due out on February 7, 2020. Today, Antibalas releases the single “Amenawon.”

    A pre-gentrified Williamsburg serves as the backdrop for Fu Chronicles, a voyage back to the early days of when Antibalas and revered soul label, Daptone Records, were spawned out of lead singer Duke Amayo’s kung fu dojo. A senior master of the Jow Ga Kung Fu School of martial arts, Duke Amayo along with Antibalas’ founder/baritone saxophonist, Martín Perna, guide listeners through an epic journey where kung fu ingeniously intersects with Afrobeat on Fu Chronicles.

    WNWNYC’s New Sounds exclusively premiered Antibalas’ latest from The opening track and first single off Fu Chronicles, “Amenawon,” Tuesday. It honors Amayo’s late mother, whose middle name was Amenawon. She is also depicted on the cover of Fu Chronicles standing as tall as the Statue Of Liberty, carrying a baby.

    With the literal meaning translating to “may the water you will drink, not pass you by,” the composition speaks to rain water washing away pollution and the unveiling of government lies. Amayo pays homage to the Yoruba River goddess, Yomoja, whose healing powers can be accessed by invoking her name. Water is further a symbol in kung fu reflecting one’s ability to adapt to any situation.

    At age 12 in Lagos, Nigeria, Amayo began his kung fu practice while simultaneously witnessing the spiritual leader Fela Kuti perform at his famous nightclubs the Afro-Spot and Afrika Shrine in Lagos. Living in the same neighborhood of the Afro-Spot and sneaking into the clubs to experience the force of nature that was Fela Kuti, a young Amayo was enlightened on his path destined for greatness in America.

    Attracted to the cosmopolitan lifestyle of fashion, dance, martial arts, and music, Amayo moved beyond the highlights of his football career to launch a singular clothing brand and open a kung fu dojo in Williamsburg, dubbed the Afro-Spot Temple. Upon opening the dojo, Daptone co-founder Gabe Roth and Martín Perna inquired about classes, and soon invited Amayo to join Antibalas. The dojo became the headquarters for the band and label with Antibalas’ classic sophomore album, Talkatif (2002), being recorded onsite at the dojo’s recording studio. Coming full circle, Fu Chronicles sees Gabe Roth in the producer’s chair with Antibalas laying down the tracks at Daptone’s House of Soul in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

  • Tim McGraw Kicks Off Here On Earth Tour in Central New York

    Announced this week, country superstar Tim McGraw will kick off his Here On Earth Tour on July 10, 2020 at the Syracuse St. Joseph’s Health Ampitheater at Lakeview before making his way across the nation on a 30-city tour.

    McGraw will be joined this summer by the fun loving trio who Make A Little fun for all who see them, Midland, and newcomer Ingrid Andress, who is currently taking over the airwaves with “Breaking More Hearts Than Mine.”

    Tickets are expected to go on sale later this month for the Lakeview show and their appearance in Canandaigua at CMAC on July 30, 2020.

  • Baked Shrimp Announces Winter 2020 Tour

    Baked Shrimp hit the road for their 2020 Northeast tour. This will be their longest tour yet in the band’s three-year history as they play 19 shows in the Upstate NY and New England region, including six shows in New York.

    The Long Island trio opens the tour on January 16 in Syracuse, NY at Funk ‘n Waffles where they will be joined by Bead N Bone. On January 19, they will perform at The Low Beat in Albany with the “high energy psychedelic groove circus” Glass Pony. Ithaca’s Dapper Dan will perform them in their hometown on January 31 at The Range before Baked Shrimp moves onto New Paltz where they will play on February 1 at Snug’s Harbor with Toaster Basket. They will then hit Oneonta with Some.Of.Us ft/Lace on February 6 at The Black Oak Tavern. The band closes out the tour in Greenlawn at Beau’s Bar on February 22.

  • Consider the Source Announces Plans for New Hybrid Album and Tour Dates For 2020

    Instrumental trio, Consider the Source, announced plans for an Acoustic/Electric Hybrid Album which is due to be released sometime in 2020. The trio also announced tour dates for the new year which includes a stop in Brooklyn. 

    Consider the Source originated in New York City and is a Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion band who has been performing for over ten years in the United States and overseas in Turkey, Israel, Germany and more. This album would be their first studio recording exclusively featuring their acoustic/electric “Hybrid” setup. The band is attempting to raise $25,000 for the album for recording, mixing and mastering, printing CDs and Vinyl. The financial backing available ranges from an advanced digital download for $15 to a private hybrid performance for $2000. 

    The 2020 Meta tour dates start in Portland Maine on Feb. 28 at the Portland House of Music and wrap up on April 4 in Roanoke, VA at the 5 Point Music Sanctuary. There is a stop in Brooklyn at the Knitting Factory on March 7. The tour will focus on performing their entire album You Are Literally A Metaphor.
