  • Joe Louis Walker is set to Perform Live Drive-In Concert in Plattsburgh

    There’s good news for blues and jazz fans who have been urging to get to a live show. Grammy nominated artist, Joe Louis Walker, will be performing a live drive-in concert in Plattsburgh on July 25 at 7:30 p.m.

    The show is part of the series, “Curbside at Harborside,” which is an effort to provide pandemic-friendly live concerts, while still being able to have a good time. To maintain social distancing, guests can bring lawn chairs to sit outside their cars or they can listen through FM radio.

    Walker is a well-known blues artist and Blues Hall of Fame inductee. He is also the winner of the Blues Music Awards four times.

    The blues artist has performed alongside famous icons like, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King and Muddy Waters. He has over 20 albums under his belt, his latest one being, “Blues Comin’ On,” that came out this year.

    Joe Louis Walker is “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues,” said NPR.

    Parking for Joe Louis Walker in Plattsburgh opens at 6:30 p.m., with it being 20 dollars per car in cash. Takeout meals will be provided from The Naked Turtle for tailgating.

  • Miserable Chillers Release Newest Single “Saga’s Sword” from ‘Audience of Summer’

    Alternative rock band Miserable Chillers debuted their third single, “Saga’s Sword,” off their upcoming album, Audience of Summer, out Friday, August 7.

    “The song really captures the feel of a curious young child exploring and actively pursuing new experiences, as Gallego even adds some ribbiting frogs and glimmering forest sounds to complement the track’s shiny guitar riffs and marimba-sounding percussion.”

    Bandleader Miguel Gallego grew up in suburban New Jersey, where he found his passion for music. He now lives in Brooklyn. He recorded and produced his latest tracks with Baby Blue Records, in New York.

    Miguel’s creativity and intuition came from the world wide pandemic caused by COVID-19. “I think of myself as a late bloomer, a lot of things have only recently started to appear obvious to me,” said Gallego.

    As a result, Fifty percent of the proceeds from digital purchases on Bandcamp will be donated to Bed-Stuy Strong. This is a group of over 3,000 people helping in the aid of their community during the COVID-19 crisis.

    I believe that in times of economic and public health crisis, and amidst the violent failures of state policy to address the needs of vulnerable communities, the necessity of local, communal responses to communal needs is especially acute. I would like to support a local mutual aid group. Bed-Stuy Strong centers on solidarity, care, and an imaginative approach addressing the needs of the community and neighborhood that I live in.

    Along with Gallego, artists from other bands contributed to the making of this album. Megan Braaten from Your Sister and Kabir Kumar of Sun Kin both sang backing vocals. While others like Sarah Goldfarb (Red Widow and Ovaeasy) played the cello. Together, they created the baroque pop sounds of the new record, exactly how is described as.

  • Card Reader releases emotional single about life and death

    Long Island based pop-punk band, Card Reader, released their newest single, “Sore Eyes,” in honor of the loss of a close friend to lead vocalist Tom Petito.

    “I wrote this song after I lost a close friend. The message is resounding: life is short, any day could be your last so don’t settle for less. Go after your dreams unapologetically,” said Petito.

    Card Reader made their first appearance to the music scene earlier this year with their debut single and music video, “Familiar Voices.”

    Petito, drummer Rob Cigliano and guitarist Marc Lambert worked with other bands for 10 years until Petito wanted to start his own project and formed the trio. Petito said the creation of the band was to put passion at the forefront.

    Card Reader has struggled since live music has been put on halt, but are determined to get their EP released by fall.

    The band’s motto states, “believe in yourself unapologetically. Don’t settle for anything less than what makes you happy in life and in music. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and put your own stamp on what being in a band means.”

  • Watch the new trailer for the upcoming Pixar Movie “Soul”

    Pixar this weekend debuted an inspirational new trailer for their upcoming movie, Soul.

    The first trailer depicted the soul of the musician Joe Garner, voiced by Jamie Foxx, struggling to find himself in ‘The Great Before,’ a place where souls gain personality traits before they are born into the world.

    The new trailer depicts Joe as a middle school band teacher, sharing his passion for music that he finds everywhere in his neighborhood in New York City.

    Soul will arrive in movie theaters in November 2020.

    “Music moves people,” says Joe, “Music is life, you just need to know where to look.”

    Written and directed by Pete Docter, who co-wrote notable movies like Up, Inside Out and Monsters, Inc., Soul centers around Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), who gets a chance to perform at a famous jazz club, but instead falls into a sinkhole, where his soul leaves his body. He must then has to find his way back to his body, with the help of 22, a soul voiced by Tina Fey.

    Soul promotes passion and to go for what you love. In Joe’s case, it is his love for music.

    Although the score for the film was composed by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, both trailers feature neo-soul musician Cody Chesnutt with the song, “Parting Ways,” and pop rock band AJR with the song, “Overture.”

    This marks Pixar’s twenty-third film and will release in theaters on November 20 of this year.

    When Soul is released, it will be accompanied by Burrow, from the Pixar SparkShorts program. The official description of Burrow says:

    In Disney and Pixar’s new short film Burrow, a young rabbit embarks on a journey to dig the burrow of her dreams, despite not having a clue what she’s doing. Rather than reveal to her neighbors her imperfections, she digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble. After hitting (bed)rock bottom, she learns there is no shame in asking for help. Directed by Madeline Sharafian and produced by Mike Capbarat as part of Pixar’s SparkShorts program, Burrow opens in theaters on Nov. 20, 2020, in front of Disney and Pixar’s Soul.
