Buffalo post-hardcore rockers Once Upon A Flatline has released a new song and lyric video for “Hang Hymn High,” the third single off of the bands debut EP The Theatre Lucy. Engineered by Nate White, the track is inspired by the jazzy musical “Chicago,” with a serious message about getting help against domestic violence especially while so many are trapped at home during the pandemic.
Consisting of six members with a strong female front, Once Upon A Flatline attempts to combine the madness of Sweeney Todd with the post-metal of My Chemical Romance with each of their larger than life productions. Their other two singles “For The Wretched of The Earth” and “Those Last, Fatal Days” teased parts of “Les Miserables” and “Moulin Rouge,” respectively.
With a music video already released the band is currently in the studio finishing the last of seven songs according to the press release. Each song will keep with the band’s motif of storytelling and all be inspired by a different, famous Broadway musical with a metal twist told by ghosts that haunt The Theatre Lucy.
The New York Guitar Festival has added Grammy-winning guitarist Warren Haynes to the already packed line up for ‘Reverend Gary Davis: In Search of the Harlem Street Singer’. Slated to be a virtually accessible twelve song series, NYGF will release one video performance on their Youtube channel nightly at 4 PM EDT.

Brooklyn native Pop Smoke, was killed in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning according to a report from Rolling Stone. A representative from the Los Angeles Police department confirmed that they responded to a 911 call around 4:30 this morning to find Pop Smoke shot. Pop Smoke was rushed to an area hospital were upon arrival he was pronounced dead, he was only 20.
Even though several people were questioned at the scene, no arrests have been made as of early Wednesday morning. Up to six people are sought in connection with his death, police said. The nearly 3,000-square-foot home on which the alleged home robbery took place is a rental property reportedly owned by Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, daughter of John Mellencamp and star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Pop Smoke’s death comes after his new mixtape, Meet the Woo 2, made its debut at number eight in the Rolling Stone albums charts. Meet the Woo 2 was released earlier this month and was a accumulation of collaborations from this past summer with other trending rappers such as Travis Scott, Lil Tjay and Calboy. The mixtape was received well by fans, with already 37 million streams.
Born as Bashar Jackson in Brooklyn, New York, Pop Smoke was living the dream as he went from a unknown artists to the next-up in a span of months. Last year in April he released a hypnotic song titled “Welcome to the Party”. He quickly earned a major label deal with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records. The hit has since had 80 million streams and an official remix with superstar Nicki Minaj. Minaj took to Instagram earlier to give her condolences on Pop Smoke’s early demise.

The rapper’s rise to fame has been scattered with hardships since last October. Rolling Stone had reported that Pop Smoke and a slew of other local rappers were scheduled perform at the New York festival Rolling Loud but were demanded by police to be removed from the lineup in a letter that “if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence.” He was also arrested in January after allegedly transporting a Rolls Royce, worth $375,000, from California to New York.
We will continue to update as the story develops.

In celebration of 30 years of being a innovative quartet, Grammy winners Bela Fleck & The Flecktones have added several new stops to their summer 2020 North America tour. Four stops along the way will be in New York including March 25 in Ithaca, March 28 in Stony Brook, and June 3 in Albany before their tour concludes on June 5 in Port Chester.
Formed in 1988 by NYC native Bela Fleck for a PBS series special Lonesome Pine Special, the group consists of banjoist Bela Fleck, harmonica and keyboardist Howard Levy, bassist Victor Wooten, and percussionist / drumitarist Roy “Future Man” Wooten. A year later in 1989 is when the group began touring, creating a sound that could never be labeled. Playing all manners of genres – from classical and jazz, to bluegrass and African music, to electric blues and Eastern European folk – breaking music barriers has been the common denominator propelling this group forward.
“The band is a creative idealistic project, one that somehow connects with people in a profound way,” says Béla. “Nothing about any of that has changed in 30 years. The Flecktones are touring for the sheer love of playing and celebrating our friendship. That’s why we get together these days.”
“What I needed,” replied banjo innovator when asked about the 1989
formation of Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, “were people that were kind of
freaks. Each
person had to be an equal or more, and that’s what made it work when I ran into
these guys and we started playing together.”
