  • Pink Talking Fish Burn Down The House with Junta Circus Spectacular

    Pink Talking Fish literally brought the circus to the Capitol Theatre with Greg Ormont from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong stepping in as The Ringmaster. There was talk of circus performers and antics happening during the show, but what occurred can be described as nothing short of a spectacle!

    Scrambled Greg was the perfect fit for the role of ringmaster. He stepped up whole heartedly and was silly, incredibly enthusiastic and hilarious. It appeared that he was having the best time out of anyone in the theatre. Greg sat in on guitar for a couple of songs, doing vocals on “Icculus” and even manning a trampoline during “You Enjoy Myself.”

    Pink Talking Fish burned down the house with an incredible musical performance featuring amazing takes on Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and songs off Phish’s Junta including “Y.E.M,” “Divided Sky,” “David Bowie,” “Fluffhead” “Fame,” “Foam,” “Dinner and a Movie,” “The Great Gig in the Sky,” “Brain Damage” and so much more. There was even a memorable sit from Ben ‘Junta’ Hunter, the first manager of Phish.

    The Big Apple Circus featured an eclectic group on incredibly talented performers featuring clowns, aerialists, and a woman who could hoop ten-thousand hula hoops. The circus kept the show incredibly visually stimulating while PTF kept the jams going all night long.

    Seems that this display is a notch up for PTF. Undoubtedly, this show took an immense amount of preparation and coordination by everyone involved from lighting designer to clown. They’ve showed that with a lot of dedication, with the power of music, and a little help from your friends incredible spectacles can be created.

  • St. Paul and The Broken Bones Roll Through Port Chester

    On Sunday, February 17, St. Paul & The Broken Bones made their Port Chester debut at the historic Capitol Theatre. Led by the incredible vocalist Paul Janeway the Alabama rock and soul band weaved in out of their original catalog, blessing the audience with amazing versions of “Flow With It” and “Apollo.” The 8-piece soul outfit was in top form preparing for an upcoming performance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. There is something about sweet soul music, having a tight band and a lead singer that makes all the hairs on your body stand with every high note hit. It’s awesome to see good music thrive, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for St. Paul & The Broken Bones.

    Umphrey’s McGee‘s Ryan Stasik’s New Band Blast off Late Night at The Brooklyn Bowl.

    After a raging three night run at Brooklyn Steel Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik brought his new band Doom Flamingo to The Brooklyn Bowl for a late night dance party. Fronted by the dynamic and tantalizing Kanika Moore, her soulful vocals accompanied by rolling bass line, broad horns, and an eerie darksynth soundscape set the night into hyper drive. Doom spent the night weaving through original material and covers including ZZ Tops Legs, the 80’s classic Maniac, and Nine Inch Nails Closer. Support this awesome new band and be on the look out for new singles as they are released.

  • Imagine a World Without The Beatles: “Yesterday” Trailer

    What would happen if The Beatles never existed? What would happen if you woke up one day and you’re the only person who knew their songs?

    That’s what Yesterday, an upcoming musical comedy film directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), is all about. Written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually), the film follows Jack, a struggling yet ambitious songwriter who awakes after a bike accident to find that he’s the only person who knows The Beatles and their songs.

    Jack’s journey seemingly mirrors the drama, fame, romance and fandom that The Beatles must have experienced. Starring Himesh Patel and Lily James along with an enticing supporting cast featuring Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran, Yesterday comes to theaters on June 28.

    Umphrey’s McGee played the second night of a three night run at Brooklyn Steel Friday February, 15. The Jam Veterans moved in an out of their eclectic catalog with crowd favorite “Red Tape” and “Wife Soup.”  A highlight from the show was an amazing cover of the Little Feat classic, “Fat Man in The Bathtub” with a guest hot section of  Mike Maher (Snarky Puppy), Chris Ott & Dan White (Huntertones). Fans are looking forward to see what Umphrey’s brings for their final night of this Brooklyn Steel Run.

  • Galactic Brings the NOLA Funk to Brooklyn

    Galactic brought their deliciously funky Already Ready Already Tour of NOLA Funk to Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, February 9 to promote their new album with the same title. The New Orleans-based group is one of the original jam bands from the mid-nineties. Their style is often described as a fusion of rock, funk, jazz, hip hop, r&b and electronica, and has evolved over time.

    They often tour with a talented vocalist, and Erica Falls is no exception. The native New Orleans singer has a style that is rooted in vintage soul, channeling an earlier era. Erica reminders her fans that, “Vintage soul is not about bringing the listener back to a time of authentic music, it’s about reminding them that it never went anywhere.”

    In addition to Erica Falls, Galactic brought their funky NOLA friends The Motet to open the show. The Motet released an album last month titled Death or Devotion as well. Singer Lyle Divinsky raised the band’s energy even higher with his exceptional stage presence at Brooklyn Steel, and got the crowd ready for Galactic.

    At set break, the High and Mighty Brass Band entertained fans with marching band renditions of TLC favorites like “Waterfalls” and “Creep.” The High and Mighty Brass Band is still currently on tour opening for Galactic.

    After the serendipitous first set and set break music, Galactic and Erica Falls took the stage with a bayou-flavored vigor that only Louisiana natives can possess. They played several tunes off of their new album, including “Ready Already,” “Clap Your Hands,” “Going Straight Crazy,” “Touch Get Cut,” and “Everlasting Light.” Ms. Falls lit up the stage with her dynamic and authentic vocals. Galactic showed their incredible improvisational skill with everything from saucy sax solos to funky guitar solos.

    The High and Mighty Brass Band joined Galactic on stage again during the encore for “Buckit Like a Horse,” raising the level of funk just one more time.

    In support of Frames Per Second, the most recent album from Philadelphia instrumental rockers Lotus, the band came to Buffalo for two celebratory nights at the Town Ballroom.

    With four sets spread out over two days there was plenty of time to explore tracks both old and new much to the delight of the capacity crowd. Getting things started each night was the Portland, Maine collective Jaw Gems.

    On a cold and rainy Wednesday night, the Los Angles based band, Dawes brought An Evening With Dawes: Passwords Tour to the The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. The weather didn’t damper those in attendance, as the band took a full house on a journey through its catalog of songs. The band opened the show with “Living in the Future,” from their most recent release Passwords. Throughout the night Taylor Goldsmith roamed the stage engaging his band mates and the audience. By the end of the night, all were one. The band played two sets, finishing the night with “All Your Favorite Bands” from All Your Favorite Bands.
