  • Celtic Double-Bill: Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys Rock Forest Hills Stadium

    Two of the biggest names in celtic punk/rock, Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys recently stopped by Forest Hills Stadium in Queens.

    Flogging Molly gave Forest Hills several mainstays from their library but also played two new songs, “The Hand of John L. Sullivan” and “Crushed” from their recent album Life is Good, both welcomed by the fans. Aside from a few easier moments in the set to let the rowdy dancers rest their feet, Flogging Molly kept a fast pace throughout. Frontman Dave King made several Guinness toast between songs, rallying the crowd who was quick to start up a small circle pit.

    Dropkick Murphys took to the stage with building anticipation while Sinead O’Connor and The Chieftans’ recording of “The Foggy Dew” played out on the PA. Without hesitation they got right into “Captain Kelly’s Kitchen” and “The Boys Are Back” making their way up close to the rail-riders. A couple of new Dropkick songs made their way into the set including “Blood” and “Rebels With A Cause” and just as with Flogging Molly’s debut of new music was greeted well. Keeping with the spirit of getting close with the crowd, Dropkick Murphys invited a bevy of their punk rocker fans on stage for the encore with an important message on the screen behind them: “only jackasses take selfies on stage” (a friendly reminder about enjoying the moment of a show rather than getting absorbed in taking 15-second videos).

    Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys shows are always reliable for hitting the mark of a fun night of their flavor of Celtic rock. With both bands having a bit of a fanbase in the New York community of first responders, a running joke of the night was about the FDNY and NYPD getting along. But joke aside, the show brought out the friendliest in everyone there – a big piece of what makes for the jollity of seeing Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, especially on the same bill.

  • Jamiroquai To Play NYC This Fall

    British electro-funk act Jamiroquai announced their first New York show in more than a decade. The recently-reunited group will perform at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on September 8. They have been touring the world to promote their new album Automaton, and will be playing Coachella next month. A full list of dates they will play are available on the Jamiroquai website and tickets for the show at Forest Hills Stadium, Queens, NYC go on sale Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m.

  • Arctic Monkeys Detail North American Dates

    A total of five years have come and gone without fresh Arctic Monkeys material, leaving fans with AM to hold them over until the English rockers’ latest musical venture. Promising fans fresh content in the near future, it seems the seasoned performers will stay true to their convictions with newly announced North American tour dates for Arctic Monkeys as the warmer weather rolls in.

    One gig at LA’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery kicks things off in May, before hopping to the other side of the states for three-show runs in Raleigh, Nashville and Atlanta. The foursome will take on the East Coast on July 24 at Queens, NY Forest Hills Stadium before moving onto Boston and DC as well as Midwestern territories in Pittsburgh, Detroit and Toronto.

    Pre sale tickets went on sale March 13 at 10 a.m., while tickets go on sale to the general public on March 16. In tandem with the freshly announced European gigs, this will be the first tour since 2014.

  • alt-J North American Tour Includes New York Dates in June

    alt-J will be criss-crossing the globe all year, hitting the U.S. in April and June. The first leg of the North American Tour takes place in April on the West Coast and includes Coachella.

    They come back to hit up the East Coast in June, playing Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on June 15 and headlining Mountain Jam, which takes place that same weekend. Of note, Forest Hills will be the largest US venue alt-J has headlined, and will be piped out through an immersive sound system which envelops the audience in the audio experience. Tickets are on sale now for some shows on the North American Tour, including Mountain Jam and Forest Hills Stadium.

    alt-J are Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Green. With three successful albums to date, alt-J’s current project involves collaborating with other artists to reprise and re-imagine 2017’s Relaxer. No word yet on what the concept entails or when it will be available. Follow alt-J for updates.
