  • Photo Gallery: The Seventh Annual Wintercourse

    The 7th Annual Wintercourse was held at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on Saturday, January 20, 2018 on a warm and wonderful winter night filled with smiles, hugs, and good music.

    wintercourse 2018Space Carnival brought the heat early, showcasing their dance laden jams as well as their heavier prog side, ending on a high note of their newly released single “Queen of Cups.” Six year Wintercourse veterans Cousin Earth played a set stacked full of high energy originals and unique covers including a throwback to Saturday Night Live’s “Natalie Portman Rap” and the Disney after school classic, “Tale Spin.” Headliner Bella’s Bartok puts on a show like no other, with a high energy dance party of klesmer and punk that was absolutely magnificent.

    Teddy Midnight took the stage as the final act of Wintercourse 2018, delivering a set filled with surprises. The group brought up Tara Lawton and Joey Calfa of Cousin Earth, with Tara singing on “American Boy” by Estelle (complete with rapped verses by band members) and Calfa to ripping up the Teddy classic “Turkish Silva.” Bringing their trademark live house vibes, they covered Daft Punk’s “Face to Face” as well as a heavily improvised New Deal/Daft Punk Medley to round out the night.

  • Ampevene Debut “Valencia” off Upcoming Album “Ephemagoria”

    Prog rockers Ampevene have released the first video, “Valencia,” from their upcoming live album Ephemagoria, set to be released on February 9. The live album featured classic and never before recorded Ampevene songs as well as covers, capturing the feel of a live performance at The Recording Company in Esperance, NY, and mixed by Tim Lynch with mastering by Alan Douches of West West Side Music.

    Ampevene will hold an album release party on February 9 at The Hollow Bar and Kitchen in Albany, with Brooklyn’s Cousin Earth joining for the night.

  • Photo Gallery: An Adult Prom in Winter at Funk ‘n Waffles

    Hilarity ensued as concertgoers strapped on their swanky vintage prom attire to attend “Prom Night” by Pumpkin Patch Presents at Funk ‘n Waffles Music Hall in Rochester, NY.

    Pumpkin Patch Presents, the newest event promotion company to launching out of Rochester, NY, catapulted into the scene by hosting regional favorite Folkfaces, with very special guest The Big Jazz Small Band for this adult-themed prom. As attendees, NYS Music saw matching outfits, vintage ties, prom dresses, shined shoes, high heels, dancing, drinks, and even a prom photo booth.   • Photo City to Host Folk City: A Three Day Benefit for R.E.A.C.H

    Event booking and promotions company Hey Dude After Hours has just announced the lineup to their three day folk festival, “Folk City” at Photo City Comedy and Improv in Rochester. The event will run on Friday Feb. 16, Saturday Feb. 17, and Sunday Feb. 18.  Folk City festival will be raising money for REACH (Rochester Engaging in Action for the Chronically Homeless). As the acronym implies, REACH collaborates to create safe, financially sustainable, housing options to meet the needs of chronically homeless individuals by ensuring services needed and encouraging mutual care.

    The three day event includes many of the region’s favorite folk acts, including headlining performances by Floodwood, Folkfaces, Milkweed, and the Neighbors (Members of Driftwood,) alongside Twenty Thousand Strongmen, PA Line, String Theory, Aaron Lipp, and Seth Faergolzia, with many more musicians ready to tickle your ears.

    One-day passes will cost $15 pre-sale or $20 at the door. Two-day passes come at a pre-sale price of $25, and a full three-day pass is marked at $40 pre-sale and includes a free drink. Tickets can be purchased through cnytix.com.

  • Space Carnival release video for “Queen of Cups”

    Space Carnival has released the video for “Queen of Cups,” the result of the band’s 2017 songwriting that means new material in 2018. With pop aspects and a progressive vibe, “Queen of Cups” is the result of the band’s growth and focus and an infectious tune, and was recorded at SubCat Studios in Syracuse.
