Nelson performs protest music that addresses both sides, recalling folk music as a root of protest music:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI feel like with the current political climate, not just in America but around the world, there needs to be a new revival of folk music. You had such a big folk genre, such a big folk influence in the \u201850s and \u201860s, and it just kind of died off. Now there\u2019s a void that needs to be filled by people who have something to say.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KmRywKktSsw<\/p>\n<p>The children of immigrants,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lascafeteras.com\/?mc_cid=14f3d093a3&amp;mc_eid=64eb15fa4d\">Las Cafeteras<\/a>\u00a0take roots music and remix it while telling modern day stories. The band &#8220;wanted to engage people\u2019s imaginations about the future of this country. Everyone knows what\u2019s wrong, but not many know what to do. We hope to push people to think about themselves as presidents of their homes, schools, workplaces and to create the kind of country they would like to see starting from the local and moving outward.&#8221; Listen to &#8220;If I was President.&#8221; below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1806630540\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/track=3325793658\/transparent=true\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" seamless=\"\">&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href=&#8221;http:\/\/lascafeteras.bandcamp.com\/album\/tastes-like-l-a&#8221;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Tastes Like L.A. by Las Cafeteras&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;\/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Klezmer music has roots as protest music, as described by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionleader.com\/article\/20170216\/NEWHAMPSHIRE0105\/170219563\/-1\/mobile?template=mobileart\">Asher Putnam<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/2020\/01\/27\/in-focus-bellas-bartok-and-west-end-blend-at-the-hollow\/\">Bella\u2019s Bartok.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Columbia, South Carolina&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.free-times.com\/news\/cover-story\/palmetto-protest-musicians-react-to-the-age-of-trump\/article_ae9626cc-f2fb-11e6-8748-cb318853f50b.html\">Free Times<\/a> spoke with local musicians on the influence of the age of trump on protest music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/music\/index.ssf\/2017\/02\/forbidden_folk_the_focus_of_5-.html\">Forbidden Folk,<\/a> part of the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas ended last week, with about 1,000 musicians and singers gathered for five days of music, song and mingling with promoters, critics, agents and disc jockeys for a maniacal, magical feast of music that ran almost 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/showbiz\/celebrity-news\/blondies-debbie-harry-thinks-that-idiot-donald-trump-should-spark-protest-songs-a3471111.html\">Blondie\u2019s Debbie Harry feels that protest music is on the rise<\/a>: \u201cI don\u2019t want to go backwards in time; I don\u2019t think isolationism is a good thing at this time in history. I think he\u2019s an idiot. &#8220;I don\u2019t like the idea of promoting fear to gain popularity.
