  • Whose Hat Is This? First Ever East Coast Tour

    Tedeschi Trucks Band side project Whose Hat Is This? is set to make its first tour down the east coast. The six night tour brings them from New York City down to the Atlanta metropolitan area.

    Whose Hat Is This? is made up of Tedeschi Trucks Band members Tim Lefebvre on bass, Kebbi Williams on saxophone and JJ Johnson and Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell on drums. Their shows combine elements of jazz, funk and electronica into completely improvised sets. Their self-titled debut album was released in April.

    The tour kicks off on Dec. 4 at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall and continues for six consecutive nights down the coast until they close it out on Dec. 9 at Gate City Brewery in Roswell, Georgia. This tour sees the band coming off two sold out shows at New York City’s 55 Bar in October. The only other Northeast show is Dec. 5 at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia.

    The tour was booked with assistance from Craft for Causes who partner the craft brewing community with live music ventures for charitable experiences.

  • Roots of Creation Announces 2017-18 Tour

    Roots of Creation wishes all of their fans a “Happy HoliBlaze” as they kick off their 2017-18 tour. They’ll be playing four New York-based shows spanning from Buffalo, Brooklyn, Kingston to Canton from December through April. Of course this is a busy time of year, so those caught up in the holiday rush can also catch them just outside the city in Bridgeport CT as well as Stanhope NJ.     There’s evidence that these will be some of their most energetic and memorable shows, as seen in a recent performance on their Facebook page featuring a “Rage Against the Dead” show, which garnered a large virtual and live audience. There is also reason to believe that they will be showcasing a number of Grateful Dead covers with a reggae twist due to their hype over the soon the be released album, Grateful Dub. RoC has asked fans to help fund the album by giving a donation, which is coupled with great incentives ranging from early album access to studio time with the band.   • ‘Weird Al’ Tones It Down for 2018 Tour, Several NY Dates Included

    Everyone’s favorite parody musician will once again hit the road, as “Weird Al” Yankovic, has announced dates for an extensive tour of North America in 2018. Yankovic has recently wrapped up one of his biggest tours ever and will return in 2018 with his 70+ city “The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.” Longtime friend and comedian Emo Phillips, will perform before “Weird Al” takes stage.

    Weird Al 2018Shows will take place in venues with a more intimate feel, and create a little different atmosphere than normal “Weird Al” shows. Yankovic has stated that he and his band will perform original material, rarities, and deep cuts. “Weird Al” will perform songs he and his band haven’t played in years, and songs they have never before played live. He also stated that he and his band have been rehearsing around 60 songs for the trek, and each show on the tour will have a different set list.  Unfortunately, there won’t be any costume changes or running and jumping around by “Weird Al,” as he and the band will sit on stools, and jam out songs for around 90 minutes.

    “Weird Al,” has released 14 studio albums. Four of those fourteen albums reached gold status, while six others reached platinum certifications, including 1984’s “Weird Al” Yankovic in 3-D. He has also won four Grammy awards in his career including Best Concept Music Video for the song “Fat,” in 1989. He has sold over 12 million albums, and has appeared in numerous television shows and on the big screen.

    The tour will kick off on Feb. 27, at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie. New York will see several other stops on the tour throughout the state, including March 1 at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown; March 13 at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts in Buffalo; March 14 at the State Theatre in Ithaca; March 17 at The Paramount in Huntington; and March 23 at The Apollo Theater in New York.

    During a recent interview with Nerdist, “Weird Al” commented on the upcoming tour, his longevity, Emo Phillips and what he hopes fans take away from the tour. “Weird Al” was also asked about his stamina, he replied:

    I’ve definitely had time to relax, reconnect with my family, even take a shower! But yeah, when I’m on the road, it’s pretty exhausting–I get a real workout every night. This upcoming tour shouldn’t be too taxing though. We’re just going to walk out on stage, sit down on stools and play a bunch of songs. No running and jumping around, or changing into thirty different costumes. It’ll be a little rougher on my vocal cords, because I won’t have any video breaks during the show. But the whole vibe of this next tour is going to be pretty laid back. It’s the “Let’s Not Work Up Too Much of a Sweat” tour.

    What he’s looking forward to the most about the tour:

    The band and I are really just looking forward to a change of pace. I’ve been putting on fat suits and riding Segways around the stage, and I just wanted to do something totally different this time out. I don’t think I’ll be making a habit of this: this is quite possibly a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It’ll also be really fun for me to play some of the songs that I was always proud of, but somehow slipped through the cracks. There are only so many songs I can perform in my live show, and the parodies are the audience-pleasers, so we have to focus on those, and as a result, a lot of my original material never makes the cut. But this is not an audience-pleasing show. It’s probably going to be an audience-baffling show. As I’ve said before, there’s a subset of my fan base that’s going to go absolutely nuts for this tour, but it might not be for everybody.

    If he was nervous touring a different type of show for the first time around:

    Well, I wasn’t really nervous until you just brought it up! Yeah, I always get a little nervous right before a tour, and particularly when I’m doing something new. And this tour is extremely different from every other tour I’ve done. I guess I just have to go into it with a good attitude. I know it’s not going to be perfect… it’s not supposed to be perfect. All my other shows were rigidly planned down to the second, and on this tour, we’re literally doing a different set list every night. I’m going to talk a lot more on stage. See, this is really going against my nature and stepping out of my comfort zone. I’m the kind of guy that likes to have everything super-planned out and over-rehearsed and always know exactly what I’m going to do and say. On this tour, I’m just going to walk out on stage and see what happens. It could suck; it could be amazing. That’s a little terrifying to think about… so… I’m going to stop thinking about it.

    On what he hopes fans will bring home from seeing this show:

    Primarily, lots of MERCH. That would be good. Besides that… this tour is geared specifically for the long-time hardcore fans, so I just hope that some of them get their minds blown by hearing some obscure old favorite songs that they never dreamed they’d ever get a chance to hear live. And we’re really pulling out the deep cuts for this show. We’re rehearsing 50 or 60 songs, most of which we’ve either never played live before, or haven’t played in decades. It’s a lot of work. I’d also like to think that, since this show will be comprised almost entirely of my original songs, it might shine a light on the fact that I’ve done some decent non-parody material over the last three decades. But hey, I’m not kidding myself – I know that to 95% of the general population, I’ll always just be the “Eat It” guy.

    How it feels to tour with his longtime friend Emo Phillips:

    I’m really looking forward to that. Emo’s one of my oldest friends, and I think he’s seriously one of the funniest guys in the world. I’ve never traveled with a support act before. For a long time, promoters would hire local comedians to open the show. We never knew anything about them before we got there. Some were good, some were not so good, and some were totally inappropriate. And then, when our show length passed the two-hour mark, we decided to eschew the opening act entirely and make it an “Evening With Al.” But we’re going to try not to bust anybody’s bladder on this tour: Emo’s doing about 30 minutes, and I’m doing about 90. It’ll be really fun; I always have a good time with him, and it’ll be a blast riding a bus with him for 15 weeks. I just hope he doesn’t snore, or perform daily ritual sacrifices or anything. Eh, whatever, I’m sure I’d get used to it.

  • The Young Dubliners East Coast Tour Begins

    NYS Music welcomes the Young Dubliners once again to New York as they begin their east coast tour, making their first of three New York appearances tomorrow evening in Cohoes at the Cohoes Music Hall.

    Often considered one of Celtic Rock’s hardest working bands, The Young Dubliners blend their musical backgrounds and styles to create a unique sound that encompasses an electric mix of influences which of course includes a Celtic rock sound. Touring the entire year across the United States and Ireland, these few shows are their only east coast appearances scheduled this year in our area. Don’t hesitate to grab your tickets and take in a show as their energy as a live band is a must see.

  • Trey Anastasio Band Fall Tour with Halloween Show

    Trey Anastasio will bring his solo band on a six-night fall tour in Las Vegas and California in late October where the tour includes a Halloween show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

    Trey Anastasio continues to keep his solo band busy. With four shows already scheduled in mid-September in Northern New England and New Brunswick, he recently announced a string of shows out west in October and November. The tour kicks off with two nights at the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on Oct. 27 and 28. It continues on Halloween at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, only the fourth time the Trey Anastasio Band has played the holiday, the last time being two years ago. He hits up the Observatory OC in Santa Ana, California the next night on Nov. 1. After a night off to travel north, he finishes up his tour with two nights at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on Nov. 3 and 4.

    In addition to those dates, he also has a pair of orchestral dates in late September in Nashville and Atlanta.

    Tickets for the fall tour are currently available through a realtime pre-sale, which ends Wednesday, Aug. 23. They go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 25.

  • Hollywood Undead and Butcher Babies coming to Rochester

    Rap metal heavyweights, Hollywood Undead and metalcore band Butcher Babies recently announced their North America 2017 tour. Anthology in Rochester will be one of their stops on Friday Nov. 17.

    hollywood undeadBoth bands have new unreleased albums but only Hollywood Undead have officially released details on their new album titled Five (stylized as V), while Butcher Babies have only stated on social media that they have finished recording a third full length album only referred to as BB3, presumably Butcher Babies 3. Tickets go on sale Friday July 28 at 10:00 a.m., with prices ranging from $25 to $30. This show will be 16 and up.

  • McLovins 2017 Fall Tour Stops in NYC, Rochester, Hannibal

    The McLovins dropped some initial tour dates for fall 2017, including three stops in New York this month including a stop at New York City’s Mercury Lounge for a Phish Baker’s Dozen after party.

    Hailing from Hartford, Connecticut, the McLovins have been making waves since their start in 2009 playing alongside big names in music like the Gin Blossoms, Buddy Guy and George Porter, Jr. They’re currently working on two EPs as a followup to their 2015 self-titled album McLovins, which should be released this fall.

    The McLovins fall tour starts tomorrow for a Phish Baker’s Dozen after party at the Mercury Lounge in New York City. The tour takes them up and down the eastern seaboard with several dates in Georgia and Alabama, closing out at Milkboy in Philadelphia on Nov. 22. In addition to tomorrow’s show, they play two other shows in New York. They hit up the Photo City Improv in Rochester on Aug. 17 and play the Big “G” Jam in Hannibal on Aug. 19. They also make a stop in nearby Erie, Pennsylvania on Aug. 12 at the Kings Rook Club.

  • Mike Gordon Announces ‘OGOGO’ and Fall Tour with Stop in Syracuse

    Mike Gordon is putting the final touches on his newest studio album, OGOGO, set to be released in September. He will head out on a fall tour with the current lineup of his solo band. The 17 night tour kicks off on Sept. 22 in Athens, Georgia and includes a stop at Syracuse’s Westcott Theater.

    mike gordon ogogo tourPhish bassist, Mike Gordon, has been keeping busy with the new lineup of his solo band. His fifth studio album, OGOGO, will be released on Sept. 15. The first track, “Steps,” is available for streaming now and can be heard in the video below.

    Gordon will also take his current solo band out on a 17 night tour that kicks off on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia. The tour makes a stop on Friday, Sept. 29 at the Westcott Theater in Syracuse. The only other stop in the Northeast is at New Haven, Connecticut’s College Street Music Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 27. The tour closes out with a two-night stand at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14. Gordon’s band includes Scott Murawski on guitar, Robert Walter on keyboards, John Kimock on drums, and Craig Myers on percussion.

    Tickets for the tour are available now via a real-time pre-sale, which ends Thursday, July 13 at 5 p.m ET. The general on sale date for the tour is this Friday, July 14 at 10 a.m. ET.

  • Folkfaces Announce Extensive 2017 Summer Tour

    Buffalo’s Folkfaces are gearing up for 2017 and their biggest summer tour yet. The extensive tour focus primarily on New York, giving those in the state plenty of opportunities to check them out.

    Buffalo-based Americana quintet Folkfaces has had a busy 2017 and the year is only half over. They released their debut album How Long? back in April while also completing two spring tours. The band consists of Tyler Westcott (guitar, vocals), Dan Borodzik (slide guitar, vocals), Ellen Pieroni (saxophones), Patrick Jackson (upright bass) and Dan Schwach (drums, washboard).

    Folkfaces’ summer tour features over 30 dates throughout New York with stops in five other states and Toronto. The tour kicks off this Wednesday, June 21 at Al’s Wine & Whiskey in Syracuse and closes out at the Night Lights Music Festival in Sherman. The tour primarily brings the band throughout New York with a heavy focus on the western portion of the state for their hometown fans.

    In addition to their own shows, they’ll be sharing the stage with a handful of other bands. They play with Dustbowl Revival on June 28 at Babeville in Buffalo. They’ll join The Tenants on July 14 for a house show in Akron, Ohio on July 14. On July 22, they play the Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs with The North and South Dakotas. The Fredtown Stompers and the Buffalo Brass Machine join them on Aug. 2 at the Tralf in Buffalo. As part of the Buffalo Infringement Festival, they play alongside Swimmer, Minor Racket, Dark Matter Trio and The Funk Theory Extravaganza on Aug. 4 at Nietzsche’s in Buffalo. Nietzsche’s sees them again on Aug. 23 along with Minor Moon and Pine Fever.

  • Lord Electro Means Business

    Albany’s funktronica act, Lord Electro, will get down to business this summer as they continue their tour in support of their debut studio album, Business. The band will also release its first live album recorded at the legendary Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont.

    Lord Electro continues its “Business” Tour in support of its debut album of the same name, which was released in March. The tour brings them around the state, starting on June 8 at the Disc Jam Festival in Stephentown, where CEG Presents named them one of the top five acts to see on the main stage.

    They make a few festival appearances over the summer. They hit up the Woodhenge Festival in Adams, where they are scheduled for two sets, on June 23. They play a late-night set on July 8 at Kenny’s Cosmic Campout in Barryville. They finish up their festival appearances on July 29 at the GEM Festival in Glens Falls. In addition to the festival appearances, they’re playing a number of shows in the Northeast, including the Monopole in Plattsburgh on June 24, Lukins in Utica on June 29 and Silvana in New York City on Aug. 5.

    Lord Electro will also release their first live album at the end of the week on June 2. Live at Nectar’s was recorded on May 10 at Burlington, Vermont’s legendary Nectar’s Lounge. The live album showcases the band’s improvisation. It will be available digitally on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify and Soundcloud.
