  • Listen to the new Teddy Midnight Lineup

    On Saturday November 4, Teddy Midnight returned to the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn with a new lineup for their first hometown gig in months. The genre bending duo In Flux and party-starting DJ Tucci kicked off the night. Teddy Midnight, now consisting of bassist Sean Silva, drummer Adam Magnan, and new member Danny Caridi formerly of Chromatropic on keys, debuted brand new material including originals and covers. 

    teddy midnight lineupThe trio kicked off the set with a cover of The Chemical Brothers “Go,” setting the tone for the night. Next up was the new original “Menudo Phalanges” that is a high energy disco romp in the vein of LCD Soundsystem’s relentless grooves. After a cover of EDM classic “We Are Your Friends” by Justice and Simian, the trio invited former Chromatropic guitarist Andrew Carton to the stage. Carton ripped through the first old Teddy song of the set, “Velvet Mist,” and continued through another new tune, the funky deep house influenced “French Press” and then a jam filled cover of the New Deal‘s “Back to the Middle.” The trio then threw down a cover of Deadmau5’s “Some Chords” that lead into the third new song of the night “Moon Funk” and a raucous cover of Prodigy’s big beat hit “Smack My B****Up,” an ode to cranking up the volume on a DJ mixer, a fitting end to a high energy set.

    The band’s exciting new direction is sure to turn heads and get crowds dancing from start to finish. Upcoming shows include The Hollow Bar and Kitchen in Albany Dec. 8 and Pacific Standard Tavern in New Haven on Dec. 9, both with Consider the Source, followed by a return to New York City on Dec. 28 to play a Phish Pre Party at American Beauty.   • The Werks Phish After Party at American Beauty NYC

    The Werks kicked off the first night of Bakers Dozen after parties at American Beauty on Friday July 21. The band teased “In the End” by Linkin Park as a tribute to the late Chester Bennington.

  • The Magic Beans Get Down in Colorado with Special Guest Thom LaFond

    Sunday night, The Barkley Ballroom in Frisco, CO was home to a reunion of two former New Yorker bandmates turned Colorado transplants. Thom LaFond, former guitarist for Albany-based and Camp Bisco alum, Dirty Paris, joined his former bassist, Chris Duffy, with Duffy’s current band The Magic Beans for an ambient take on The Magic Bean’s space funk rager “Jabu Jabu’s Belly.”

    LaFond lent his hand in setting the tone with an opening improv jam, heavy with ambient delay which built the suspense and anticipation for the first drop into the meat of the song where Casey Russell took over with a soulful organ lick to get the bodies moving. Chris Duffy held things down for the bulk of the song with his thick bass grooves while the rest of the band moved through keeping things danceable yet continuing to utilize the spacey vibe that has become more familiar to a Beans dance party as they develop as a band.

    Around the 8:20 mark, drummer Cody Wales started laying out the heavy snare hits, signaling the jam to open up, transforming into a high flying shred fest. Lafond adeptly built the speed and intensity of his lead work while Beans guitarist Scott Hachey complimented, both matching LaFond’s picking runs and building things up behind LaFond to take the final few minutes of this jam into something that had the whole room soaring before being dropped straight back into the dance party for a few more measures.

  • Everyone Orchestra at Warren Station

    The eclectic Everyone Orchestra performed a three-night run in Colorado, with the first night of the small tour at Warren Station in Keystone on January 12. The intimate venue positioned at the base of the ski resort was the perfect place for the group to host their jam filled night. This show’s all star line up conducted by Matt Butler, included Shira Elias and Josh Schwartz of Turkuaz, Chuck Jones and Eli Winderman of Dopapod, Eddie Roberts of the New Mastersounds, Michael Travis of the String Cheese Incident, and Mihali Savoulidis of Twiddle.
    The enthusiastic crowd danced the night away and sang along as the super group performed many jams guided by the project’s creator, Matt Butler.  The lively night ended with a reggae tune which got the whole crowd singing “Keystone let the snow fall.” The group performed the next two nights in Denver and Fort Collins.
