  • Members of SCI and Turkuaz, Plus Holly Bowling, to Perform with Joe Marcinek Band (Updated)

    The Joe Marcinek Band will play five shows in early December with a very special lineup. The brief tour brings the band to Syracuse and Buffalo on Dec. 4 and 5.

    The current incarnation of the Joe Marcinek Band features Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green) on bass, Pete Koopmans (Family Groove Project) on drums and Holly Bowling on keys. Joe Marcinek, of course, will be on guitar. Jason Hann (String Cheese Incident, EOTO) will cover percussion the first two nights, with Michelangelo Carubba (Turkuaz) taking over the final three. ROAR, formerly Yojimbo, will open each night.

    Marcinek has a new album in the works. He is funding its creation through a crowd-source campaign. From his website:

    We are going out to Colorado to record at Scanhope Sound with Joey Porter from the Motet producing. Most of the money raised will go towards covering the studio time, musicians, mixing, master, manufacturing and anything left over will go towards advertising!

    Correction: Michelangelo Caruba will no longer be joining the Joe Marcinek Band for this run. Jason Hann will be covering percussion for the first three nights, with Ryan Nogle, formerly of Aqueous, on the fourth night. There will be no percussionist on Dec. 6.

  • Jane Getter Premonition to Tour in Support of ‘On’

    Progressive supergroup Jane Getter Premonition will head out on a brief tour in support of their new album On. The mid-December tour includes stops in Buffalo, Kingston and New York City.

    Joining Jane Getter, who Guitar Player called “the fieriest fretboarding female ever to strap on a Stratocaster,” on tour will be Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steven Wilson) on keyboards, Alex Skolnick (Testament) on guitar, Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai) on bass and John Mader (Steve Miller, Pat Benatar) on drums. The tour will kick off on Dec. 8 in Cleveland, Ohio and end with two shows on Dec. 16 in New York City.

    Commenting on the tour, Getter said in a press release, “We will be playing the exciting and hard hitting music from our newly released album, On, on Madfish Music, along with a few older hits from Three and See Jane Run. Get ready for some intense jams!”

    Guitarist and composer Jane Getter has played with many jazz and rock greats while garnering increasing recognition as a bandleader, gifted writer and instrumentalist. Early in her career she toured with legendary jazz/blues organist Brother Jack McDuff. Her composing talents received attention when she won the ASCAP Gershwin Award for Music for Dance or Theatre in the mid 90’s. Her debut CD, Jane, in 1998 received worldwide critical acclaim and the 2006 follow up, See Jane Run, was released on Alternity Records (home of Allan Holdsworth). In 2012 she released the progressive jazz/rock album, Three. Getter also received widespread exposure playing in the Saturday Night Live Band.

  • Updated: Tool to Tour with Primus in January

    Tool posted an announcement to their Facebook page last week mentioning that they will be soon announcing U.S. tour dates for January 2016. That post also stated, “Regarding an opening band(s), what I was able to discern through the ever-shifting veil will in all likeliness be exciting to many Tool enthusiasts.”

Through another post to Facebook, they announced, “Those faint glimpses of TOOL SHOWS that I recently perceived in the scrying mirror can now be considered official. Indeed, something wicked your way comes…THE UNPARALLELED SONIC AND VISUAL EXPERIENCE OF TOOL LIVE.”

    Tool did not specifically announce the openers, but Primus and 3TEETH are listed on the bill at ticketing sites for each show.

    There are no Northeast dates announced yet, but Tool is teasing more dates with, “CHECK BACK SOON FOR MORE INFO…”

    All shows go on sale this Friday, Nov. 20. Tour dates are as follows:

    Update (Nov. 30): Tool has added a second show in San Diego on Sunday, Jan. 10. Tickets for this show are currently on sale. Additionally, four new dates were announced today. The new dates are as follows:

    Tickets for these four new dates go on sale on Friday, Dec. 4. Tool has, once again, hinted as even more dates through their Facebook post: “Please continue to check back for times and links and to see if any more shows are ADDED to this list.”

    Update (Dec. 8): Another stop on the Tool tour has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 6 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. Billed as “An Evening with Tool,” there will be no supporting acts. Tickets for this special night of music will go on sale on Friday, Dec. 11 at 12 p.m. PST.

  • The Jauntee Hit New York Before West Coast Run

    The Jauntee will play a New York City show – plus one in Boston -before heading out for a West Coast run.

    The hard-touring jam band from Boston will hit Church in Boston before a show at Pianos on March 15 in New York City.

    Then they’re set to play play a number of concerts throughout Colorado, plus stops in Ohio and Kentucky before returning to the Northeast with a New Hampshire show on April 11.

    The band, which bills itself as “Psychedelic-JazzBluesFunk with a touch of Latin based Reggae” consists of Caton Sollenberger on guitar, Tony Cerullo playing keys, John Loland on bass, and drummer Scott Ferber.

  • Feeling a Bit ‘Geddy’ About R40 Already: Rush Announces 40th Anniversary Tour

    Digital men and analog kids: wave a magic wand, and presto! Rumors of a tour can materialize just like that. With the mean, mean pride of a 40+ year career since the early ’70s, Rush was driven by their love of performing to announce a 34-show North American tour this spring and summer. The RUSH: R40 Live Tour begins May 8 and wraps up August 1.

    RUSH R40The band, who has written the soundtrack and anthems to many fans’ lives (yes, that is a truth) won’t be stopping at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center as they have on several of their recent tours. However Rush will be driving the barchetta through New York State with stops at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo June 10 and Madison Square Garden June 29. They’ll also have nearby shows at the TD Garden in Boston June 23 and the Prudential Center in Newark June 27. Check out the full listing of dates on the tour website.

    It was the course of natural science that Rush, made up of Dirk, Lerxst, and The Professor (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart), was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, a long overdue token according to many fans. Through 20 gold and platinum studio albums and several live releases the band has built a strong, loyal following yet maintained subtle obscurity in the limelight of general popularity. Let’s face it: if someone auditioned for American Idol by whipping out “A Passage To Bangkok,” Paula Abdul would likely fall out of her chair in confusion over what band’s song she just heard.

    Since time doesn’t stand still, R40 will likely be the band’s last tour of this magnitude. However, this isn’t necessarily yet a farewell to the kings of progressive rock.
