  • David Gilmour Adds Radio City Music Hall Date in April

In support of Rattle That Lock, David Gilmour at first had only announced four U.S. dates. Ticket demands quickly prompted second dates at each of those four cities. Some exciting news has come that Gilmour has added a third NYC date. He will take to the much smaller than MSG space of Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, April 10 making it the first of his now three nights in NYC. Tickets go on sale Thursday Dec. 3 at 10 am on Ticketmaster. Special presale times are listed on Ticketmaster.

David Gilmour Radio CityThe renowned guitarist behind Pink Floyd announced a new solo album last week, Rattle That Lock, and a four North America tour dates which went on sale the next day. The extraordinary response to that ticket sale brought about second chances for people to partake in the limited opportunity.

Rattle That Lock is Gilmour’s first solo album since his 2006 release On An Island. Along with the announcement came a preview of the album with the title track hitting the internet.

The song deviates slightly from elements used on his previous solo album and the final two Pink Floyd releases, The Division Bell and The Endless Riverwhere he was the driving creative force. It calls back a bit to his older solo works, which brings speculation about what we might — or might not — hear when the album debuts on Sept. 18.

Gilmour’s first four tour dates garnered a lot of hype, with tickets for the Madison Square Garden show becoming slim pickings soon after they went on sale. High hopes became grounded as Gilmour announced four more dates to make each of his stops a two-night affair.

He will now play Madison Square Garden on April 11 and 12, 2016. Tickets for the just-announced April 12 show go on sale in less than a week, starting at 10 a.m. on July 27. As with last week’s ticket sales, every ticket buyer for the newly announced shows will receive a copy of Rattle That Lock.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and Gilmour’s website.

    From Gilmour’s Facebook page:

  • David Gilmour to Tour North America in 2016

David Gilmour will tour North America in 2016, the first time in a decade.

The Pink Floyd lead guitarist revealed details during an appearance over the weekend alongside wife and lyricist Polly Samson at the Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas in Ireland.

During the question-and-answer session with Scottish writer Andrew O’Hagan, entitled “Lost for words,” Gilmour revealed the name of his new solo album due out in September: Rattle That Lock.

David Gilmour TourDuring an autograph session after the discussion, Gilmour told a fan that he has plans to tour North America in 2016, according to the Pink Floyd-themed podcast Brain Damage hosted by Matt Leonard, aka “the Doctor.”

Leonard also includes in the podcast a quick preview of two new songs that will be on the album, “Boots on the Ground” and the bluesy “Girl with a Yellow Dress” (around 1:30). The material was played from Gilmour’s iPhone, Leonard said in the podcast.

Also during the session, Gilmour and Samson “touched on lyric writing and the nature of creativity, amongst other topics” and “the process of writing lyrics for both On An Island and The Division Bell, Polly expanded on the collaborative nature of her writing for David and Pink Floyd, and how rewarding it has proved to be,” according to Gilmour’s Facebook page.

Gilmour is set to embark on a sold-out European tour this fall:
    Sept. 12 – Pula, Croatia
    Sept. 14 – Verona, Italy
    Sept. 15 – Florence, Italy

  • The Machine Runs Smoothly at The Chance Theater

Musical icons have graced The Chance Theater for decades and on Friday, March 6, The Machine, rocked the Poughkeepsie venue. This is a band that has built its legacy playing the music of legendary Pink Floyd, and they have proved to be quite masterful at it. They played two long sets, digging deep into Pink Floyd’s catalog and jamming into early Saturday morning.

Bassist and lead vocalist Adam Minkoff promised early in the evening that they would play plenty of songs and The Machine delivered. They opened with “Have A Cigar,” instantly lighting up the crowd. Guitarist Ryan Ball hit each note accurately and shredded an emotional solo during “Wish You Were Here.” Drummer Tahrah Cohen emulates Nick Mason’s style perfectly and demonstrated her talent with a tight solo leading into “Time.”

Scott Chasolen tore up his keys rig during “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” and reminded you can’t have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat. “Comfortably Numb” was another favorite that had the Poughkeepsie faithful singing along. They also mixed in songs that don’t get as much radio time like “If” and “Sheep” and performed “The Trial.”

The Machine’s musical prowess is undeniable and the show’s production is also fascinating. A well-choreographed light show accompanied the music—lights flared up with time changes and colors were in tune with the mood of the music. Between songs, the room went dark except for small neon lights around the stage that stayed lit. The theater never went silent. There was always something reverberating or ticking even when the music was at a lull.

The show lasted just over three hours and few people left early. As can be expected at a Floyd tribute show, the crowd ranged in age from 16 to 66 and had fairly equal representation of all age groups in between. Despite the variance in attendees’ backgrounds, everyone left with a smile and one of their favorite Pink Floyd tunes still ringing in their heads.
