{"id":146,"date":"2014-02-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/2014\/2014\/02\/19\/red-hot-chilli-pipers-turn-the-heat-up-in-syracuse\/"},"modified":"2014-02-19T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-19T00:00:00","slug":"red-hot-chilli-pipers-turn-the-heat-up-in-syracuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/2014\/2014\/02\/19\/red-hot-chilli-pipers-turn-the-heat-up-in-syracuse\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Hot Chilli Pipers Turn The Heat Up in Syracuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite frigid temperatures in Syracuse February 7th the city was on fire! \u00a0Not only because our beloved Orangemen were setting the town on fire and leading their division in basketball, but because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhotchillipipers.co.uk\/\">The Red Hot Chilli Pipers<\/a> were setting the stage on fire at the Syracuse Palace Theater.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32096\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32096\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_1950-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32096\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_1950-2-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"Red Hot Chilli Pipers\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32096\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Hot Chilli Pipers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Opening the show in true Celtic Style, the Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band began the evening warming up the crowd with traditional sounds and a spectacular drummers light show. \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t seen these folks, they are a band of approximately 36 pipers who have played locally and competitively since 1973. \u00a0Truly a Syracuse gem and the perfect way to begin a show featuring the Pipers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32092\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32092\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_0495.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32092\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_0495-500x250.jpg\" alt=\"Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32092\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Second to take the stage was Hobo Graffiti, a local rock band, who gave the audience a taste of the rock and roll side of what the evening had in store. \u00a0With\u00a0Kris Wiechmann on vocals and acoustic guitar;\u00a0Tommy Matkowski \u00a0on 6 &amp; 12 string acoustic guitars;\u00a0Chuck Kahl playing upright bass;\u00a0Kevin Dean playing bass, snare, cowbell, tambourine, and ride cymbal; and\u00a0Heather Jones finishing out the group with vocals and guitar, this band gave the audience a taste of what they have deemed as their own\u00a0style of rockabilly and dirty rock. \u00a0Their strong vocals and amazing musical talents once again confirmed what a mix of musical talent is here locally in Central New York.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32094\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32094\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_0946.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32094\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_0946-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"Hobo Graffiti\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32094\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hobo Graffiti<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under the cover of darkness, The Red Chilli Pipers took the room by storm with \u00a0the opening song &#8220;Insomnia&#8221; demonstrating just what was in store for the evening. \u00a0Traditional bagpiping music was not on the set list, instead the evening would be more than two full hours of the most non-traditional bagpiping you would imagine with the perfect bass, keyboards, guitar, percussion, and sound &amp; lighting to accompany. \u00a0I personally love when bands begin with a strong foot stomping number to bring the crowd to their feet first and foremost and trust me when I tell you, this was truly foreshadowing for what was to come.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32104\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32104\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_3860.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32104\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/IMG_3860-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"Red Hot Chilli Pipers\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32104\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Hot Chilli Pipers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They did not let off all night with constant playing and sound offs between bagpipers Willie Armstrong, who when not piping is saving homes and lives as a fireman; Craig Munro who has been recently featured playing in Disney&#8217;s movie <em>Brave;<\/em>\u00a0and the crowd favorite Gordon &#8220;Dougie&#8221; McCance who constantly wins the pipe off as the others claim it&#8217;s not based on talent but on the cuteness factor during \u00a0their &#8220;Tag Team Jig&#8221;. \u00a0We also saw spectacular drum battles between Grant Cassidy who is referred to often as the as having the fastest hands in Scotland on the snare drums (aka the Ferrarri of drums), Steven Black on full drums, \u00a0and Paul Jennings on cajon and bongo drums. \u00a0These musicians are top notch and true performers giving the show of their life each and every night.<\/p>\n\n<p>The music was a mix of their own and amazing covers of songs such as Coldplay&#8217;s &#8220;Fix You&#8221; and &#8220;Clocks&#8221;, Kings of Leon &#8220;Use Somebody&#8221;, ZZ Top&#8217;s &#8220;Gimme All Your Lovin&#8221;, \u00a0War&#8217;s &#8220;Low Rider&#8221;, Snow Patrol&#8217;s &#8220;Chasing Cars&#8221;, and Journey&#8217;s &#8220;Don&#8217;t Stop Believing&#8221;. \u00a0\u00a0At one point and time they even had the whole audience up participating during C&amp;C Muisc Factory&#8217;s &#8220;Everybody Dance Now&#8221;. \u00a0With Alan McGeoch on bass, Gary O&#8217;Hagan on keyboards, and Ben Holloway on electric guitar the pipers and percussionists had the perfect accompaniment on each and every number.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QosPKhQxPLc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was however the encore number though of their newest release Avicci&#8217;s &#8220;Wake Me Up&#8221;, \u00a0and crowd favorite Queen&#8217;s &#8220;We Will Rock You&#8221;
