  • Lucid 10th Anniversary Celebration at Olive Ridley’s Friday March 28th

20140327-135056.jpgLucid will take the stage at Plattsburgh’s Olive Ridley’s Friday, March 28th to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

The show kicks off at 9 pm, and is for those 21 and over only. Admission is $5 and will feature special guest Chromatropic.

A full decade of progress and development has established Lucid as one of the most dynamic, hard working, finely tuned bands in the North Country. Lucid is also featured among the surviving Top 16 bands in this year’s March Madness tournament.

Recently, Chris “Hollywood” English left his hometown of Rochester, NY to join his long-time friends and colleagues in Adirondack-rock, blues-fusion outfit, Lucid. Hollywood is a welcomed addition to this hard working and veracious group of dynamic, respected musicians. The addition of Chris only solidifies the growth and forward momentum of Lucid.

  • Chris ‘Hollywood’ English Joins Lucid as New Drummer

North Country Adirondack-rock, blues-fusion outfit Lucid is continuing their 10-year journey with a new drummer.  Chris “Hollywood” English is deeply rooted in music as he comes from a family full of musicians. The addition of Chris only solidifies the growth and forward motion of Lucid. It is a match made in musical utopia.

Chris has an extensive musical background and attended The School of the Arts Performing School in Rochester.  His musical upbringing, schooling and time spent playing on the road have shaped him into a musician who is not only a crowd-pleaser, but into someone that’s known and respected among his peers.

Throughout Chris’ career, he has shared the stage with Charlie Hunter, moe., Bobby Blue Bland, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Soulive, Robert Randolph, The Word and AudioInFlux, to name a few. Chris is currently working on his first solo album, which will showcase songs that he has composed and written, with plans to release in the coming year.

Chris plays drums with an intense rhythmic accuracy and skill that every drummer strives for, but few can deliver. His talent on the drums in concert with his incredibly powerful and soulful vocals contributes to any venture he takes on, aiding in creating a complete and euphonious musical experience for an audience.

Find yourself in the celebration that is a Lucid show, and you’ll quickly understand the infectious, unique experience that music fans are raving about. Come and join the party.

  • Lucid Lights Up The Hollow

Lucid swung by The Hollow on February 22nd and turned the venue into a dance floor. Openers Way Down, a local three-piece jazz rock band, started the show with a mix of covers and originals to the crowd’s delight. A fun take on Ween’s “Roses Are Free” had more of a Phish vibe to it than Ween, much to the crowd’s enjoyment. All three members are fantastic on their instruments, showing high skill levels on all of the songs, but vocals could use some improvement. Don’t let that stop you from seeing them though, as their musicianship is fantastic.

    20140222 - Lucid 9

Lucid barely fit the whole band on the small stage of The Hollow and broke out the funk right away. Jaime Armstrong’s saxophone and Lowell Wurster’s percussion-work continuously pushed the band throughout the night. The songs came at a blazing pace, seamlessly never stopping. They introduced a new drummer in Chris English, and even though it was his first show, he did a fantastic job of keeping things interesting behind the kit.  They played late into the night with nothing but smiles on stage and throughout the crowd. Make sure to catch Lucid out on tour as they regularly play throughout Upstate New York.

What’s more fun then a parade of frozen leprechauns, fire breathing dragons and ladies doing synchronized dancing with lawn chairs? Add in sideshows of frying pan tosses, frigid golf, Frisbee flings, fireworks and free music and you have the annual Saranac Lake Winter Carnival 2014.

This 10 day event is set in the “coolest” town in the US, Saranac Lake, located up in the Northern Adirondacks. Initially started in 1897, it is complete with crowned royalty, an ice palace and a theme which changes yearly. This year’s theme was deemed “The Celtic Carnival”, and having been crowned the second best Winter Carnival in the world by National Geographic Traveler, it’s a hidden gem in our own backyard. Buttons that celebrate the carnival theme are designed by Gary Trudeau, the creator of the comic strip “Doonesbury” and a true Saranac Lake native.

For the duration of the festival, live music spills out of the small bars and venues performed by local favorites and touring regional bands. Notable acts include Sophistafunk, Conehead Buddha, Tim Herron Corporation and local favorites, The Blind Owl Band and Lucid highlight the musical festivities. Break the chill and come up to Saranac Lake for Winter Carnival 2014.
