  • Judas Priest and Steel Panther Announce Tour, Will Play Main Street Armory in Rochester and Barclays Center in Brooklyn

    The metal gods Judas Priest, who embarked on what was thought to be their final tour the previous two years have decided that there is no rest for the wicked and announced a U.S. run with glam metal jokers Steel Panther this fall, with the very first stop at the Main Street Armory in Rochester on Wednesday, October 1 as well as a stop in Brooklyn.  The tour is set as follows:

    Judas Priest are set to release their 17th album Redeemer of Souls on July 8 via Epic Records.  Frontman Rob Halford recently trademarked the term “metal  god” because he wants no one else to ever be known as a “metal god” other than him.  Steel Panther will be supporting last year’s studio effort All You Can Eat.

  • Deltron 3030’s Futuristic Spacecraft Touches Down in Buffalo Next Week

    10358755_686212514747445_8156211774306475651_n“It’s the year 3030, and here at the Corporate Institutional Bank of Time we find ourselves reflecting, finding out that, in fact, we came back. We were always coming back…”

    These are the lyrics to “State of the Nation”, the first track off of Deltron 3030‘s self-titled debut album which was released back in May 2000. Nobody knew it back then, but the rapping Nostradamus was making the first prediction of his off-the-grid career through these words. It took fourteen years, but his second album, Event 2, was finally released this past year in September. We should’ve trusted his prediction and known he was coming back. The fourteen year gap didn’t help Deltron 3030’s popularity, but for those who are in the know, Deltron is one of the most interesting rappers out there. In today’s watered-down rap offering, Deltron is a throwback to a time when groups had to have chops to even be noticed. Deltron 3030 is composed of rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala, and producer Dan “The Automator” and the group brings a futuristic and, almost, avant-garde approach to the table. The first album was a concept album about the world in the year 3030, rife with vivid imagery and interesting ideas like “upgrading your grey matter”.

    Fast-forward to the new album, which takes place in 3040, and Del is back, announcing such with a second track titled “The Return”. And while a fourteen-year span would normally see various lineup and sound changes to a band, Deltron 3030 returns with the same members and only a slight progression in sound, which is a compliment, not a knock. Everything that made Deltron 3030 interesting, mysterious, and transcending is in place and has only been upgraded since the original release. Who knows? Maybe Del never upgraded past the dial-up modem and it just took that long to upload his latest. Regardless of the reason, Deltron not only has a new album, but he’s touring and coming to Buffalo next week. On Thursday, July 10, Deltron 3030 will be bringing his futuristic spacecraft to The Waiting Room. Since the rapper takes a music industry lightyear to release another album, it’s highly recommended to catch him live while he’s here on this planet. You can grab your tickets here and plan for a peak into the next millennia as Del will surely take everyone on a trip through the wormhole.

    If Buffalo is too far of a trip, fear not, as Deltron 3030 is also making appearances at The Westcott Theater in Syracuse on July 13 and in Brooklyn with a full orchestra on July 19.

  • One Last Shot To Play Vans Warped Tour

    Syracuse punk band, One Last Shot will play the Kevin Says stage at this year’s Vans Warped Tour at Darien Lake, NY on July 8.

    One Last Shot  has been touring all over New York and gained fans in the process. They were nominated for a Sammy, the highly coveted music award in the Syracuse music scene, for the area’s Best Metal Band. The band is featured in the February and August  2014 issues of Alternative Press Magazine.

    Last Halloween, the band released their full length album, Bastards of the Plague. The album has songs featuring William Control of Aiden and, and Matt Good of From First To Last.

  • Tesseract Parts Ways With Vocalist

    Tesseract, British progressive band, have parted ways with their vocalist, Ashe O’Hara, and will be rejoined by their former vocalist Dan Tompkins.

    The band said in an official statement via their Facebook account that O’Hara’s departure was amicable, and that Tompkins’ returning performance with the band will be July 5, at Sonisphere. Tompkins will also perform vocal duties on the band’s in-progress third album; similar to his vocal duties on the Concealing Fate EP and One.

    As Tompkins is also a member of Skyharbor, he made note, via his Facebook of the fact that the two bands would not interfere with one another, he will remain a full-time member of both projects.

  • Gypsy punk With Gogol Bordello Coming to Burlington, VT

    Gogol Bordello is bringing its Gypsy punk craziness to the Higher Ground Ballroom in Burlington, Vermont on July 11 and 12.

    The band plays a rousing form of punk rock heavily influenced by gypsy music and punctuated by lead singer Eugene Hutz’s thick Ukrainian accent. Hutz’s first American home was Vermont, after his Ukrainian family left their home following the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown and shifted through a string of Eastern European refugee camps.

    Their website includes an interesting artist’s statement that describes their mission:

    “Gogol Bordello’s task is to provoke audience out of post-modern aesthetic swamp onto a neo-optimistic communal movement towards new sources of authentic energy. With acts of music, theatre, chaos and sorcery Gogol Bordello confronts the jaded and irony-deseased.

    We chose to work with gypsy, cabaret and punk traditions. It’s what we know and feel.”

    The band released its sixth studio album in 2013, Pura Vida Conspiracy, and they have been touring around the world since then to promote it. They are just getting off a two-month-long jaunt through Europe, and they’ll be in Burlington after a few gigs in Canada.

  • Albany County DA Serves Pete Nice The ‘Gas Face’ Over Taxes

    Apparently Peter Nash’s status as rap’s “Prime Minister Pete Nice” does not exempt him from paying New York state taxes.

    The Albany Times Union reported that the Clifton Park resident and retired rapper pled guilty to misdemeanor criminal tax fraud in Albany County Court Tuesday, July 1.

    Nash did not attempt to use his rap moniker to avoid taxes, but the Albany Count District Attorney’s Office said he must pay the Empire State $13,101 in back taxes, penalties and interest. He will also be on probation for three years, the district attorney’s office said. He will be sentenced on Aug. 26.

    As Master of Ceremonies for the group 3rd Bass, Nash released three albums between 1989 and 1991, two of which went gold. “Pop Goes the Weasel!” a track directed towards Vanilla Ice’s unwelcome a popularity in rap circles, reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard rap charts. 20140702-065339-24819854.jpg

    Nash subsequently quit the music business and devoted his time to baseball history and memorabilia.

    According to several published sources, Nash owned a memorabilia shop in Cooperstown, and authored a book titled Legends of Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery.

    His baseball endeavors also include attempts to secure property for an official grave site of Negro League players.

    Nash was involved in litigation in 2009 with an auction house relating to the authenticity of baseball memorabilia he consigned for sale which resulted in him signing a court order admitting to having committed fraud.

    Robert Van Winkle was not approached for comment.

  • Fox Fest Blows Up CNY Festival Scene In Year 5

    As Fox Fest approaches year five of its festival run, the growth of the event in its own right is noteworthy.  What began as a blending of three friends’ annual parties, has now taken on a scale enviable by many regional festivals. Located in the pastoral hills south of Syracuse, Fox Fest is a non-profit event that annually donates its proceeds to honorable charities; this year’s proceeds will go to the Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation, a local Marine who lost his life serving our country in 2011 while in Afghanistan.

    The festival is organized by George Ryan and Kelly Nichols, held on their property in Navarino, and sponsored by a large group of local businesses, residents and attendees. There’s a full professional production provided by Wizzard Sound Corporation including staging, PA system, and lighting, while local food vendors like Limp Lizard BBQ provide food and refreshments at reasonable rates. It’s a family-friendly event that allows camping, coolers full of whatever you choose, and the open space to enjoy yourselves while security by Onondaga County Sheriffs keeps things safe, but not restrictive.

    Each year, Fox Fest tries to bridge musical genres, bringing a little bit of a taste for everyone while keeping to a high standard of performance that matches their event. Previous headliners have included Childhood’s End – A Tribute To Pink Floyd, Vinyl Albums – LIVE, Frostbit Blue and local favorites Emerald City. This year’s roster features the return of TJ Sacco and The Urban Cowboys, Dave Porter (the former front man of regional legend and national recording artists 805) with his bass and drum robot, Bob, ‘80s metal monsters Three Inch Fury, and the remarkable Tiger and Off The Reservation as headliners. With twelve solid hours of music, including eight bands and three acoustic acts to play during change-overs, Fox Fest is easily one of the most musically diverse events of the year.

  • Black Veil Brides Will Kickoff 2014 Fall Tour in Niagara Falls

    Hollywood, California glam-metal rockers, the Black Veil Brides, will bring their 2014 U.S fall tour to New York State with support for the tour still needing to be determined. Black Veil Brides will be releasing their follow-up album to Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones in late October, so look for some new tunes from the boys on this tour.

    Niagara Falls is the first date on the upcoming fall tour at the Rapids Theatre on Tuesday, October 21. The doors open at 6PM and this is an all ages show. Pick up your tickets in advance online for $25 through Ticket Fly.

    The band then continues on to Best Buy Theater in New York City, November 23. The doors will open at 6PM, this show is ages 16+, ticket prices range $27-$30 and can be purchased online in advance or at the venue box office.

    The band’s last stop in New York will be, Friday November 28 at Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, N.Y. Ticket information and show time can be found on the venue website.

  • O.A.R. and Phillip Phillips Visit Artpark on Wednesday, July 2

    OARPhillips_hpOf A Revolution or O.A.R. as most know them, bring their reggae infused rock sound to Artpark in Lewiston, NY on Wednesday, July 2. The band is known for their electric live performances, this show will be a great start to the Fourth of July weekend with Phillip Phillips

    O.A.R was formed in Rockville, Maryland in 1996 and then relocated to Columbus, Ohio where they attended Ohio State University. The band is led by Marc Roberge (vocals, guitar), Chris Culos (drums), Richard On (guitar), Benj Gershman (bass), and Jerry DePizzo (saxaphone).

    American Idol winning artist Philip Phillips will be opening for O.A.R. for this event. Philips has had the best success post American Idol with his hit song “Home” as well as releasing two additional albums since his win on the show. Philip Philips has said his music has been influenced by artists like, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews and John Butler. Phillips’ music can be described as – “jazz and rock alternative sound.   • Catch Phish on the Net From SPAC

    Not going to be around this holiday weekend to catch Phish at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC)?

    There’s still hope for you.

    Livephish.com will be streaming the three-day event over the Internet.

    Phish is coming to Saratoga Performing Arts Center on July 3-5. One of the crown jewels of venues at which the ever-popular jamband will stop to perform during this year’s summer tour.

    It’s a developing trend for venues and artists to telecast their performances over the Internet. It certainly is a perk for those who are unable to obtain tickets, or simply can’t travel the distance to attend the show.  But, for those who can attend, should.

    For one, live events have an appeal that can not be replicated on a computer. And, another reason was reported by us back in June, when it was announced that the Putnam Den would host late-night shows at two locations: Putnam Den and The Parting Glass in downtown Saratoga Springs.

    The post-shows in Saratoga have become a destination after seeing Phish at SPAC, with up and coming bands, as well as local bands ready to burst onto the scene and keep fans dancing into the wee hours of the night. The lineup for this year’s post-shows is yet another installment of great music that shows the vibrant scene of Upstate New York.
