(Photo Credit: Echo Hill\/Facebook)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s an early Sunday evening when Laudani sits down to talk.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a busy time of year for everyone. Each member of the band is pursuing\u00a0a college degree and semester finals are just around the corner.\u00a0 On top of his studies, Laudani\u00a0continues to add material to the band&#8217;s website, Twitter and Facebook accounts.\u00a0&#8220;We put a lot of time in this,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;We try to get a lot of information out there to our fans.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 And the effort is getting them\u00a0noticed.\u00a0 Echo Hill was named a featured artist\u00a0on an independent radio station based out of California, and they&#8217;re garnering enough attention to land gigs off Long Island.\u00a0 Just a few nights before, they\u00a0performed a gig at the Lit Lounge in New York City. \u201cWe were actually scheduled to play in Webster Hall,&#8221; said Laudani,\u00a0&#8220;but one of the promoters changed the venue so we played at the Lit Lounge.&#8221; The East Village venue is no stranger to big names, having the likes of <strong>Bauhaus<\/strong>, <strong>Dirty Vegas<\/strong>, <strong>White Stripes<\/strong>, and <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> magazine cross through their front door over the years.\u00a0 &#8220;It was a cool, underground place\u2026 We\u2019re hoping to get another opportunity to play Webster Hall.\u00a0 But, that\u2019s how the city goes.\u00a0 We\u2019re just trying to get our foot in the door.\u00a0 You have to be grateful with any place that you get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laudani\u00a0is approaching his final year at SUNY Farmingdale, where he studies business.\u00a0 As if one needs to question his field of study, as every visible step the band makes appears orchestrated.\u00a0 A well manicured image made in the absence of any guidance from a manager or record label.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s all us,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re trying to go as far as we can by ourselves. Once someone approaches us that we like, we\u2019ll come to a decision. But at this point we\u2019ll try to do as much as we can independently.<\/p>\n<p>[Independently, to an extent.]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy family is very supportive. They love me, obviously. I grew up on classic rock \u2013 <b>Led Zeppelin<\/b> and all those classic rock bands. I was always listening to that as a child. It\u2019s part of the reason why we have that sound and that influence in our music. I definitely hand it to my parents for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Echo Hill was conceived in 2010, with Laudani and bassist Dylan Coates writing music jamming\u00a0out in\u00a0each other&#8217;s basements, but the present line-up has been together for less than a year.\u00a0\u00a0 Each member attributes different influences, from the aforementioned pioneers of hard rock to contemporary mixed-media artists like <b>Linkin Park<\/b>, melding a collective sound that has drawn comparisons to <b>Paramore<\/b>.\u00a0 The band has taken upon itself to launch the resurgence of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll and identify closest to the alternative rock genre.\u00a0 They had received favorable feedback after the release of their first EP in 2012.\u00a0 However, the band parted ways from their original lead singer, leaving themselves without a front man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Then came, Monique.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/echo-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6540 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/upstatemetal.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/echo-2-600x597.jpg\" alt=\"echo 2\" width=\"600\" height=\"597\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne day she emailed us,\u201d recalled Laudani, of current front <i>woman<\/i>, Monique Teichert.<\/p>\n<p>Teichert has a contralto style of voice characteristic of jazz performer Diana Krall, only had Krall decided to go hard rock.\u00a0 She\u2019s a siren on the\u00a0mic, possessing a voice that&#8217;s both sultry and haunting. \u00a0However, none of this was ever showcased outside of a few talent shows she won during junior high school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We really\u00a0didn\u2019t want to reach out to her [at first],&#8221; said Laudani. \u201cBecause it would completely change the sound and image of the band, something that I was very reluctant to do. I always feared becoming one of those female-fronted bands where everything is about the singer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, a persistent Teichert\u00a0earned a tryout with the band.\u00a0 Laudani described what changed his mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Something about her was special, I thought, so we decided to do a side part \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/0ll7B5Q-Chc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an acoustic kind of thing<\/a>,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we brought her in, tried her out, and we liked her. \u00a0As far as &#8220;that moment&#8221; it was one of our first shows at this venue called Revolution. The place was packed, and Monique shined; leading the crowd and all. That showed me right then and there that she was an innate performer and that she was born to do that. It was really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teichert was officially made the band\u2019s lead singer in early January.\u00a0 And, since then, have released their second EP, <i>Namaste<\/i>, and organized a food drive by means of a multi-band concert event in Smithtown this past summer.\u00a0 The event collected more than 900 pounds of food intended for those still impacted by the events of Hurricane Sandy.<\/p>\n<p>Echo Hill\u2019s\u00a0image \u2013 enhanced or maintained with the addition of Terichert\u00a0&#8211; is nevertheless well cultivated, partly due to the use of social media:\u00a0 A medium the band recognizes as a vital tool for success.\u00a0 \u201cWe understand the importance of social media, how important image is in these times,\u201d said Laudani.\u00a0 The band\u2019s Twitter feed is consistently peppered with links and updates.\u00a0 And, the 12 videos available on their YouTube account include professional productions of live shows from various venues, and jam sessions recorded from Rogue Studios in Hicksville, NY.\u00a0\u00a0 One video in particular\u00a0 is a cover of Zeppelin\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/qS2_UoVpn_M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Whole Lotta Love<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a tall order to cover a legendary band, though most attempt it regardless of talent level.\u00a0 Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and the late John Bonham are considered all-time greats within their own rights.\u00a0 But, Echo Hill\u2019s tribute to the Brit rockers has less to do with mimicking a classic, as it is attempting to make something of their own.\u00a0 Teichert\u2019s come-hither vocals replace Plant\u2019s more aggressive approach, while Laudani\u2019s guitar work seems to show less Page and more Mike McCready, utilizing distortion pedals akin to the <b>Pearl Jam<\/b> guitarist\u2019s repertoire.<\/p>\n<p>Drummer Keith Miller, who idolized Bonham, is a decorated artist, having received numerous accolades through New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) throughout his academic career.\u00a0 And, Coates brings on the talent of playing both guitar and bass, bypassing guitar so that he can fill out the band\u2019s need for a bass player.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone holds his and her own on this tribute, and it\u2019s worth a viewing.\u00a0 Then, it\u2019s recommended you listen to <i>Namaste<\/i>.\u00a0 The talent within this group shines through with versatility and originality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some bands, image is even more important than music,\u201d said Laudani, \u201cand we don\u2019t stand for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans in upstate New York need to take notice of Echo Hill now.\u00a0 Laudani\u00a0says the band is planning a tour of the local colleges that pepper the landscape.\u00a0 Albany, Binghamton, Oneonta, and Cortland were all named. \u201cWe\u2019re still planning that,\u201d he said.\u00a0 But, once these plans become tangible, you ought to go see them.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, go to <a href=\"www.EchoHillBand.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.EchoHillBand.com<\/a>, @EchoHillBand on Twitter, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ECHOHILLTHEBAND\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Echo Hill <\/a>on Facebook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The idea that anything you put out into the universe remains forever tangible, defines the collective awareness and dedication behind\u00a0 Smithtown alternative band, Echo Hill.
