Though a clear departure from Trombone Shorty &amp; Orleans Avenue\u2019s previous releases, it simply works.\u00a0 While different musical styles are highlighted on each track on <i>Say That to Say This<\/i>, Saadiq\u2019s R&amp;B influence is readily apparent throughout and makes for a cohesive flow. <i>\u00a0Say That to Say This<\/i> is an album that feels as though it is meant to be played from start to finish in one sitting and then looped several times over without a second thought.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-239890 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.nysmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Trombone-Shorty-Cover.jpg\" alt=\"trombone shorty Say That to Say This\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" data-wp-pid=\"239890\" data-pin-nopin=\"nopin\" \/>The first and title track is a microcosm of the album as a whole. \u201cSay That to Say This\u201d opens with tight beats, punching horns and rocking guitar rhythms and then switches off into smoother R&amp;B laced jazz tones before picking up the tempo again. The high energy R&amp;B-meets-rock centric theme carries over to \u201cYou and I (Outta This Place)\u201d, which features Andrews\u2019 old school vocals and catchy hooks that motivate the mind, body and soul. \u201cFire and Brimstone\u201d, the lead single blends Andrews\u2019 and Saadiq\u2019s vocals with heavier grooves and horn accentuations. <a href=\"https:\/\/nysmusic.com\/site\/tag\/lenny-kravitz\">Lenny Kravitz\u2019s<\/a> influence on Andrews from their prior work together is evident on this track and it rocks accordingly. \u201cGet the Picture\u201d takes a darker, funkier tone, while still keeping a well-paced beat.<\/p>\n<p>Interspersed with the higher energy tracks are lower key and jazzier offerings.\u00a0 Most notably, \u201cBe My Lady\u201d is a remake of The Meters\u2019 1977 soulful hit featuring the band\u2019s original members with Andrews on vocals and horns.
