Greensky Bluegrass<\/strong> will play the Westcott Theatre, with their own brand of Newgrass<\/em> band that has helped to re-invent this newer genre\u00a0reminiscent of the old-timey bluegrass of Bill Monroe, but with a fresh jammy sound.<\/p>\n

The band has recently announced performances at Delfest<\/strong>, Telluride Bluegrass<\/strong> and Northwest String Summit <\/strong>and several more. They are also offering fans 5 of the 10 songs on their new album \u2018Handguns\u2019; <\/i>Stream it for Free<\/strong> below or available on the Greensky Bluegrass website<\/a> for anyone who wants to listen.<\/p>\n

As their name might suggest, Greensky Bluegrass utilizes traditional bluegrass instruments \u2013 dobro, banjo, guitar, upright bass and mandolin. However, the music that they make is anything but reversionary and the new album, Handguns<\/i> is a brave expression of what separates their original music from the rest of the bluegrass genre.<\/p>\n

Greensky has continued to gain national momentum since they won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival\u2019s coveted Band Competition in 2006 and have sold-out dates across the country as well as played at Bonnaroo<\/strong>, Bumbershoot<\/strong>, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass<\/strong>, NPR\u2019s Mountain Stage<\/strong> and many more. As these diverse festivals would suggest, they\u2019re a bluegrass band but they\u2019re not. Bluegrass doesn\u2019t have distortion, or horns for that matter. Greensky does.<\/p>\n

Greensky Bluegrass will play April 24th at the Westcott Theater<\/a> in Syracuse, NY. Admission is $15 advance\/$18 at the door. This is an all ages show, with 2 full sets by Greensky. Show starts at 7:00pm and you can get your tickets online<\/a> or at the venue.<\/p>\n
